Still is and will always remain St. George Illawarra Dragons which is a joint venture in name & title irrespective of finance. Support by 2 regions of fans is imperative to survive.
Rubbish..

The St George legacy fans haven’t been able to move with the times.. Cut them free and sell the Kogarah base to either Cronulla or the Dogs..

Those who want to join the rest of us can as we take the colours, jersey and dragons name and permanently set up camp in Wollongong!

I didn’t actually say council I said “St George County Council” which was formed in 1920 and ran to 1979 and it was the electricity provider and maintainer of sub stations etc etc to the St George district which was incredibly large back then.
Many older posters would remeber St George Council’s Council iconic offices (with the St George range of stoves etc) in Forest Rd Hurstville which is well south of the Cooks River.

OT
I don't go back to the 50 being born in the late 1960's but I remember going with my mum and dad to Hurstville to get our new stove from there.
For many a year we had a St George stove.

Yep it merged (or taken / took over with Sydney County Council. My old man was with SCC at the time

Yeah right ....
A bit rich coming from the mob that are broke and gave us the great Paul McDIpshit as a career coach.
IF that's a revolution, it's f.cking ordinary!

I think it (quite intelligently and responsibly) begun as a joint venture and now in its true construction is a partnership.

Why do you consider it a hostile takeover?

Credit where it is due: Combining two (or was it three?) associations and successfully keeping that relationship together for nearly 22 years could not have been easy - look at the plight of Balmain, Western Suburbs, North Sydney, Manly-Warringah, Cronulla, Newcastle, Gold Coast, South Sydney, and Melbourne over the past 22 years.

Things also look on the up re: Gordon (see, the advertising thread), and, a new CEO.

Yes, I know, the coach, but in the scheme of things that is and will be a short-term problem (i.e., he is not going to be there in 22 years time), but, St. George Illawarra is an awesome club who is, in my opinion, sitting very well.
All that you say is true but there was absolutely no justification for sharing top billing with Illawarra.
A JV maintaining the St. George brand/identity and history/tradition would have had the same result if not better without the compromises.

Cut the heart out of any living thing and it dies.
There is no club without the St. George legacy.

Were Cronulla Southerland or Canterbury Bankstown joint venture clubs?
Did the above two clubs and the Eastern Suburbs Roosers/Sydney Roosters, Manly Warringah Seagulls / Manly/Norths extinguish there history of GF wins when changing their name?

Using the word 'partnership' has legal implications and so is not an apt description of the current arrangements at SGI. The retention of the name 'Illawarra' in the name of our Club has no relationship to the Illawarra Rugby Leagues Club anymore as the Illawarra Leagues Club sold it's shareholding to WIN.

That’s Canterbury thinking there..

Which means off to the dogs for you in the carve up..

It’s a shame, I felt you would have been a great asset to the club..

Not really possible.
Canterbury "does not compute" in my psyche.
No amount of nonsense you spew forth can diminish St. George and it's tradition.

Shhh possm. I don't think the vibe knows what a partnership is. Let's keep it that way, if only for a laugh.

You truely live up to your title as the biggest idiot here.
You are incapable of accepting any argument that is beyond your very limited understanding.
You seem to have a set against certain members, usually the ones who don't regularly tell you how pretty you are.

Your 5th grade humor is just annoying, but it's not surprising as I assume 5th grade was sometime in the last 5 years for you.

You really do add nothing insightful or constructive to this forum.

But please feel free to continue to troll me through thread after thread adding nothing in the way of rebuttal to any post other than your limited ability to selectively quote them.

Having zero input into this thread, and after reading it.

Pot meet kettle.

Flippant as ever Muzby.

Feeling kind of hungry today so I will take the bait.

Only you could suggest 75% of the supporter base be shown the door.

The away game support enjoyed by Saints would evaporate if the name St George was replaced by WIN.

As far as I can see, the JV has set up Wollongong as its football operational headquarters.

No Kogarah = No history.

When one door shuts another one opens..

All are free to come support the Dragons under our new Wollongong overlords..

Not at all. WIN broadcast to 5.2 million people in Australia, with the focus on being their ‘local’ broadcaster... Which helps these folk to identify with WIN as being part of their community..

With only 157,000 folk residing in the immediate Georges River Council area, by using WIN as the lead we are opening the dragons brand up to a target market 33 times the size of anything that St George could attract..

The Dragons can thereby by the local team for every region that WIN touches, allowing us to become a dominant team amongst the heartland of teams such as the Cowboys, Broncos, Titans, Knights, Raiders & Storm.

No carve up. I think it a better idea for SGI to complete the process and buy out Cronulla. Then and only then will the injustices of the past be fully rectified.
I hadn’t considered buying Cronulla, it’s not a bad option actually.. But it does provide both positive and negative outcomes:

Positive: We have a defined border for the club starting at the Georges River. Just imagine heading south over Tom Ugly’s or Captain Cook bridge and seeing a banner: “Now entering Dragons territory”

Negative: Gives one less option of a team to support for those supporters who want to stay put and not follow the revolution. Not everyone would want to support the dogs.

Besides, why buy something when you can wait for it to die?

It is not about how many people live in the area.

It is all about the generations of St.George supporters that have settled far and wide all over the country and in particular in southeastern Queensland.

The vast majority have remained loyal to the Saints (excluding, of course, Millers a Legend who defected to the dark side).

Having travelled to Brisbane and the Gold Coast to watch our team play, we have often had a similar level of support to the "home team".

That support is overwhelmingly made up of the St.George legacy legion.

They are not loyal to WIN or to Illawarra for that matter, so if the name St.George dies, I venture to say the JV will die too.
