We need a good halfback.

This is interesting. The way Smith has bought in the off season makes me wonder what role he is putting the halfback in to. To me it looks like he is going back to starting everything from the acting-half position again. Morris, Riddell and Marsh have all played a lot of football from this position and are a big strength. Off the back of quick play the balls by the forwards the three mentioned above can gain metres or play in a similar way that Drew and Marsh did in 2001. It all depends on the forwards making the metres that they didn't this year.

Whoever plays at halfback will almost be like the five-eighth providing a link to the outside backs.

Thats a thought anyways and maybe why Thorman and Witt were played out of position at 5/8 or half this year..... Thorman being the better player from dummy half.

Well see that's a very interesting point Colonel.

An acute observation.

And it does make sense. Even though we do have the perceived talent for the halves - Morris, possibly Marsh (I'd rather him off the bench, but the talk is he will be the halfback), Smith, Green, Perenara. Surely one of those young guys will fire?

But I'm quite happy to have:

6. Morris
7. Smith/Green
9. Riddell

14. Marsh

for the start of the season. Morris would make a great 5/8, Marsh and Riddell would carve up and if the forwards do their jobs right, then young Tim's pressure would be considerably lessened.

That is the best combination we could have. Each is an attacking weapon in their own right.

If that combination doesnt work look for these
6 Morris
7 Marsh
9 Riddell
14 Henderson.

Hopefully it fires and we dont have to resort to Wagon at pivot.

true eel,

Every youngster that comes through has big raps on him, for e.g Sonny bill- my mate and every other scum supporter was raving about him for the last years and saying that he is the next big thing. If there good enough it won't affect them at all.

U can't expect miracles straight away from tim Smith or Blake Green or any young guy, we have to give them tim but one things for sure they both have much better games than M Witt

As much as I hate Canterbury, I sincerely hope they keep SBW for the rest of his career for they way they nurtured him through the lower grades, they could of easily started him late 02 or the start of 03 but the coaching department bit their tongues and percieved with him until he was ready to explode!! which he sadley did in his first grade debut this year.

They picked this fruit when it was just about right!!

Look I think he will deadset turn the world on fire if he is developed the right way. I never thought Id say this but Burt needs to stay in the centre position until 10-15 rounds in and Davis has dominated at that Premier League Level. Ive continually heard from ppl from the club how excited they are and that he will be what we need after Lyon and co left. So I think he has big things ahead of him.

I believe the 3/4 posy is different to say a half posy where u need developement. In the 3/4 posy u either have it or u don't thats why we seem them in at an earlier age e.g Lyon who played 2-3 games in 1st div and the rest is history. Halfs are different especially the no.7. So u never know Davis might be ready now.

Well I hope he's good.

Although I'd rather people talked about Smith or Green the same way they talk about Davis. We need a quality halfback, and people don't seem to agree.

People like Jake reckon Tim's the bomb.

Others disagree.

I hope that Jake's right.

I think most people that have seen tim smith reguarly, if they dont think he is the bomb, think he is pretty friggin close!

His very close. Let him develop his running game and he does have the ability to take us to a premiership. You ppl that doubt him just watch.

Its a shame that he just lacks a little pace. However vision and a good kicking/passing game will compensate this.

He does lack that. But some other great halfbacks really didnt have pace. 1/2 is a position where ones pace should be depended on.

Yeah its true that tim lacks a little pace and his running game can be worked on. But then u think of halfbacks such as Stuart and Sterlo who were not that fast. And even today shifty sherwin isn't that fast, As long as he can provide direction on the field and a good passing and kicking which he has got then that will be sweet.
