Boxie, don't include me in the Robson fan club, always said he couldn't play, he is a reserve grader full stop

Shows how we screwed up in securing him, and the geniuses who let Maloney, Hodkinson etc go, and that wasn't SK.

"Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you shall deny Robson three times .
Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not rate the man!" And immediately a rooster crowed.
And Delboy remembered the word which Boxy had said, "Before a rooster crows, you will deny Robson three times.
"And he went out and wept bitterly."

Good

Good point. A more rational use of the bench is probably the difference between us sitting on 15 points as opposed to 19 points. If you've got 17 players it's better balancing out the minutes then letting tired players run around dropping off tackles and making silly errors. It's all what ifs though.

If a player can play for 80 minutes why bring him off for an inferior player just because he's a bit tired?

Realistically, with an 80 minute hooker and three 80 minute back-rowers (all edge forwards should be able to play 80 minutes unless they're Feleti Mateo) you should be able to play with a 2 man bench (2 props). If your hooker or central back-rower can't play 80 minutes then include someone on the bench to interchange for them.

But if you've only got a two man bench then you can include strike players like Pat O'Hanlon. But don't bring him on when you're holding onto a narrow lead. Young blokes have brain explosions. Let him have his brain explosions when we're 2 tries up (or 2 tries behind).

Before you go laughing too hard buddy, I never said that.

I think Sandow, Roberts and Tonga will make us a top 8 side.

I think Sandow will make us a top 8 side, Roberts will be inconsistent and people will question why Hayne isn't playing 6 instead and Tonga will be solid but not spectacular, much like Reddy.

Doesn't anybody think SK's bench decisions might have something to do with making us a mentally tougher team??? I mean he wants the players to go through mental and physical fatigue. To toughen the fu*k up. Something we just haven't been for many a year. So if there are no injuries then he keeps all but the starting props out there for as long as possible.

Remember when Bennett was doing the very same thing when he first went to St Merge?

Ram, he might be doing it for a number of reasons, and that could be just one.
But people around here think they know better than Kearney, think he is screwing everything up and costing us games.
They wouldn't know what was going on tbh.
Gould's summation in the paper today (posted in another thread) is perfect for mine.

Agreed 100%. People need to just let the man do his job and a year from now, or so, we will all have a better idea as to where we are heading I suspect.

That's the way I see it too. God knows why. In the real world, you have to earn that kind of status. Granted, he does not have a fantastic squad to work with presently but I have seen nothing that warrants the kind of support and praise this bloke seems to generate with some people. It's funny how with many of the previous coaches it was all "perform or perish" but with SK it's "he deserves time"....like he has a proven track record or something - which, we all know, he hasn't.

I just hope the powers that be for this club do not throw an extension at him until at least the end of next year - once he has actually achieved something.

Well said and very true, quite silly though as we all have a right to an opinion and if its anti Kearney you have a handful in hear who go ape shit and really carry on like imbeciles, for the most part I think there are some great passionate people here, just a few in my opinion who spoil it for everyone.

i'm sorry i can't agree with this theory of not having sufficient players or can't trust a full squad of 17 players...wtf????

you MUST utilise all resources you have available to you. so what if you think you have a weak squad, why play 16 v 17??? and what confidence is the Coach instilling in his team/squad and the player in question (such as Rogers, O'Hanlon, Webb, etc) if he demonstrates to them and the team that they are just simply not up to it and you are just there as a fill in, emergency, back up etc

to me its not on.....he should be trying to build or instill confidence in these young guys or extra guys he has on the bench by utilising them - and if they do well they do well, great, if they fail, pick them up and encourage them for next week, FMD its not brain surgery?!?!?!

i mean let's leave O'Hanlon cold on the bench in the rain for 80 minutes, then throw him into Golden Point....let's play Joseph Paulo (out of the clear blue sky) for what 6 mins???
Exactly, bottom line is these guys are still getting PAID, though we have to settle for a "Rebuilding" year.:x:roll:

Kearney is doing amazing things with this club, absolutely amazing, regardless of the position on the table (we were always going to come last) if I was told in December that we'd be competing and winning a few with the likes of Allgood, Morgan. Loko, Lasalo and Etu in the line up i would of sent you to the nearest quack, the development of those players have been absolutely outstanding and I can see further improvement in that area. the fact that we even competing is in itself a great feat.

So do you think a man who won a First Grade NRL Premiership, captained his country by age 21, served a coaching apprenticeship under one of the game's great coaches and coached his national side to a unlikely World Cup victory has achieved nothing in the game? Moreover, you think he hasn't earned the right to be highly sought after and respected?

Look, I understand that as a First Grade coach he is still a novice and has no experience. I concede that and you make a valid point. But Stephen Kearney is not some loser nuffy. As I said - he coached the Kiwis to a World Cup (I know many of you think it's no big deal, but credit where it's due - he helped New Zealand to their first ever Cup, and that says something about the man), captained them at age 21 and won a Premiership as a player. This is a man who, at the very least, commands respect. By all means, criticise his coaching - perhaps he deserves criticism. But please do not say he hasn't earned the right to be put on a pedestal. He has achieved a lot in the game already.

Well said, the team besides the Storm and first Dragons have competed pretty much all season. a lack of quality in the halves and outside backs has let us down all season. And it looks like Kearney is rectifying that for next season.
