Yeah basically you could trade round 1 and 2 picks for high profile players every year...

lol the best thing is too keep it realistic..

I normally just keep my draft picks and never make any trades, slowly try and run the Packers like a poor man, lol its hard to begin with but after 3 or 4 seasons the team starts to get alot better thanks to the players aquired from the draft.

I normally try and start decent rookies right away..lol i drafted a QB who was 78spd, 94thp and 89thac..he also was 21yrs and 81ovr..i still had Favre so i just choose to start this young gun..

Favre retired, ended up making the Hall of Fame (i dont think its in the console versions), and this young QB is now rated 93 after 2 seasons.

Anyway morale of the story, young guns will keep your team alive, having one ordinaray season is worth it.

Yep, i always go for youth. I recon the average age of my entire team would be around 24-25. First thing i did when i started was trade a few picks and a strong safety to the Eagles for their strong safety, Michael Lewis. He's a dead set gun who's rating is about 94 and only chews up 700k of the salary cap in his first year.

More young guys i like are Adam "Pacman" Jones of the Titans (sim a season and he's pretty much a guarantee to get around 5 or so return TDs) and Michael Clayton of the Bucs. He has good size and all the right attributes you want in a WR...

A quick annoying question to the informed:

I have not much experience with the NFL nor NFL games. I do though very much like American football as a sport regardless of my limited association with it. Pretty much my only knowledge of the politics, players and nuances comes about through headline news, watching 2 games and playing the demo version of Madden 98 which I played to death, similar to my knowledge of soccer primarily through Champ Manager.

Basically I am looking for a sport game that will keep me interested and take a while til I find ways to cheat and expose the AI and ruin the game. So far the only real bad thing I have heard about this one is the limited franchise mode and the lack of innovation from the previous version. Should that still warrant I buy it? Will it keep me interested and having fun for a while? Do the positives outweigh the negatives? And also is it possible to play the game on a keyboard? Looks like a top game.

As I said - I only got Madden NFL 06 to wait until Rugby League 2 comes out.

I had very limited knowledge of Gridiron too. And, while not an expert now, I have a much, MUCH better understanding of the game - through playing Madden.

Personally, I think the Franchise Mode is great. For example, I created a team called the Denver Devils. Now, the Devils had a 'cupcake' roster - essentially meaning all my players were bad.

Two years into the Franchise and through hard work, dedication adn lost of cash, all my topline players are all under 30 and at least 80 overall in stats.

Problem is my prestige has gone down because my star Linebacker was holding out for more money and I sacked him lol.

But it's the little things - coaches' salaries, managing the team, managing the franchise - as well as playing that make it very long-lasting.

Plus it's addictive as hell lol.

That is so true.

After winning the Superbowl, my 31-year old 91 overall HB retired.

He was replaced by a 61 overall, 20-year old HB.

After 2 seasons he is 80 overall and one of my best players!

I also traded my created DT (99 overall) for Takeo Spikes (93 overall) - a bad trade on the face of it.

However, my other DT's include a 95 overall Norman Hand, a 90 overall 20-year old and a 87 overall 19-year old.

Also, my offensive line are all huge, strong men rated at least 90 overall each lol.

And I needed a ROLB badly - so I got one of the best in Spikes lol.

man i cant believe theres a hall of fame on the pc version, thatd be so awesome to see which players made the hall of fame.

i have a little cheat, if you play on franchise mode without a trade deadline you can get 1st draft pick every year you trade your pick with the last place teams pick (just before the 1st week of the playoffs) and they will accept.

Too unrealistic man, who trades their 1st rounders anyway? Unless you trade Randy moss you don't get squat. Even Surtain a top corner could only get a 2nd rounder....

This stupid game killed my PS2!

I was playing it one day, and I was playing Franchise Mode with a created team.

Midway through a pre-season game (in the 3rd quarter) it starts making these loud grinding noises and starts freezing the game (I play 2 minute quarters, and it took me 45 minutes to finish the last two quarters).

Now, whenever I try to load a game (any game), it makes those noises and freezes and the game doesn't load.

Good job, Madden.

Well, I successfully opened up my PS2 and re-lubricated the rails of the laser.

It works perfectly now.

The only problem is that when it was broken, it seems to have scratched my copy of the game.

Ah well - I have a back-up plan anyway lol.

That could be an idea!

Should be Ok though - they're not scartches per se, and the disclaimer thing states that they won't give you a new copy if the disk is broken, cracked or chipped. And mine isn't.

So I'll try my luck lol.

BUGGER!

I was in the 2nd year of my franchise with the Jets on the weekend after going 18 and 0, and I choked and lost the superbowl in the last 2 minutes.

A whole season wasted. Dammit!

That sucks.

I had a similar situation- I was going for the win (I was down 13-7, with 30 seconds remaining on the 4th and 10 on their 30 yard line).

I decided to be bold and try a rushing play (for two reasons: (1) my HB was on fire and surely would have won MOTM, and (2) if I ran 30 yards and scored and wasted time, I'd be assured of Super Bowl victory).

It worked - I got to the 10 yard line, with 15 seconds left - before being monstered by their CB and fumbling!

I lost lol.

But it was great fun.

Of course, that happened weeks ago - my PS2 is all lubed up, but if I don't get a Disc Read Error with my brand new copy of Madden 06, it never actually loads.

It gets to the screen where you see McNabb, and the word 'loading' at the bottom has the colours rushing through it, and I can hear my PS2 working.

But it never gets past that - I left it for hours and it still wouldn't load and let me play, damn it.

I hate the PS2. Shoddy craftsmanship lol.

I am so fed up with my PS2 lol.

I think I know what happened:

I played Madden 06 so much that the grease dried out.

The laser struggled to move but couldn't and somehow ruined my copy of Madden 06.

I re-lubricated the rails and tested it with RL. It worked fine.

But because my copy of Madden was stuffed, it wouldn't work.

The next day, I got a new copy of Madden and tried it out. It loaded, but got stuck loading and loading and loading at one spot.

So I re-lubricated the PS2 and tried to clean the laser.

Now I get 'Disc Read Error' messages.

But I have one last option - I believe the little gear at the back may be screwing up, hence why my discs aren't getting read properly.

I'll try to adjust that, and it should work.

Hopefully, after a good clean and adjustment everything will be good lol.
