See you are making shit up again. First game is on in less than two weeks.

Serious question, are you actually mentally geniused? or do you just like making stuff up?
I think I know what's happening here. Slowly your buddies are starting to watch less Union and more League. I guess you're frustrated because you're the last holdout. Everything they tell you about it being faster and better and better comp are true but you're fighting! Trying to resist and stay loyal.. but you don't have to.. just come over and see the light.
Your life will be much better.

Then why in NZ are ratings for league going down? Why are player numbers going down? Why is general interest in League going down? All questions you will be unable and unwilling to answer.

When you see the pain that Te kahs in really highlights the life of a Union fan. There's a much better version of the sport! A perfectly prepared steak! But no, yell at everyone and demand they eat their beans.
What a horrible existence.

I knew you couldn't and wouldn't answer the questions. Because deep down you know I'm right.

To keep the monopoly. Nothing more. Sky lose money on League.

A 20-team comp with no system of promotion/relegation carries significant risk.

The EPL has 20 teams. The fans of many of those know full well before a ball is kicked that they won't be anywhere near the top of the table. Finishing in 17th (i.e. just above the relegation zone) represents a successful season. All their games are important. There's consequently huge interest and the stadia are packed out.

Australian RL media and fans have an entirely different value system to judge whether a game is meaningful. Over the course of a season, a 20 team comp will provide fewer games which meet the criteria for meaningful than a 16 team comp. This will have implications for underperforming clubs and NRL popularity overall.

Aussie fans of any sport do not think they've had a good year when their team is 13th on the ladder of a 16 team comp. They will be even more unhappy, and potentially disengaged, if their team is 17th in a 20-team comp. And the media will hammer home the miserable message. All this will mean more NRL fans with a face like Phil Gould.

That’s one of the weirdest arguments I have seen against expanding a competition. By that logic, we should reduce the competition because that would mean less fans who are disgruntled.

In any case, I am not suggesting that you increase the competition immediately. You do it steadily on the back of increased TV deals. NRL and fumbleball are essentially in dominant positions now, control the market and could do whatever they want (within a certain amount of reason). A-League and Union are niche sports now in the Australian market and probably only average 50k max per game.

Because they had competition for the rights at that point. They no longer have that competition now. This is not that hard to understand
Because they see value in rugby league and make a lot of money off it as one of the most watched sports on tv in nz

shocking they do that !

Spending millions on gws makes sense cause eventually you hope to increase presence in top market. Is it worth propping up team in Perth which is far less lucrative in business but also junior development?!

I know that you are trying really hard but I wasn’t referring to fumbleball and GWS with that post. Last time I checked fumbleball are not a monopoly in any case

I was referring to this belief that Sky are going to pay more for a second team when they are a monopoly.

OMG an unsourced claim on a League site. Who would have thought. And they couldn't even find League rating... anywhere.

The real trouble is that the demographic for Rugby in NZ are older. I read somewhere that the majority are pre 1975 and they are struggling to engage with younger generations.
The game is dying with old men like Te kah. No wonder he's upset.
