NSW Cup 2023

I wondered if there might be any interest in a discussion around the NSW Cup team each week? For mine, I watched the Roosters game and I thought there were a bunch of talking points.

It was Jazz's first game back and while he played limited minutes he looked really good, He was strong with the ball, appeared to show a lot of leadership and the forward pack was better while he was on the field.

Vailea had limited touches but looked good when he did get involved.

The two young props (Maiu'u and Vagana) looked really good future prospects and the wing ,Aukustino, looks like a real monster!

But Volkman was the star. He lead the team around in such a calm fashion, you would think he was 30 not 20. I was super impressed.

Anyone else catch the game?

Didn’t catch the game but very heartened the fact that we’re 2-0 in reserve grade, hopefully means we’re getting sone depth back.

I'm always pretty interested in players popping up in this competition- either on the way up or the way down.

Playing the famous North Sydney Bears this weekend. They've had a similar start to us. Junior Pauga lining up in the centres for them, as well as Phillip Makatoa.

Rocco Berry in the centres for us.

I forgot to mention Taupiki in my earlier post. He scored one great try with some frightening speed which is pretty exciting. Also spilled a couple of high balls which I'm hoping was an aberration. He's got his chance in first grade and I picked him up as a cheapie in Fantasy a few weeks back so if he has a good game, I'll be chuffed (for him and me)

He's the goods obviously needs to get more time to develop FWIW I like the way he plays. Seems to have that brain we seem to lack in the halves. He backs himself too something our seniors could do a little more :) GL Tuaupiki I am a fan :)

Our NSW cup side looks a lot like the Daniel Anderson 2001 side.

Lots of no names, all hard running, and all like to hit people and flatten them.

The complete opposite to the John Akland GF NSW cup run over the top of you athletic bigger kids sides.

This Reggies side are a better watch than the NRL team.

The future looks bright for the Warriors. Recruitment take a bow. These boys will go deep into the finals and they will provide more NRL players than any NSW cup side before them.

When you look at how hard running the forwards are, the backs too, and how busy and hard working they are across the board, one day this will be the Warriors top side if we get it right...almost all of our top team will be built on this side.'

Imports will be minimal and restricted to spine kicking specialists.

One reason I asked Meth to put '2023' in the title (cheers mate) is because of this: if we had a similar 2011 thread I'd revisit it. I'd be looking at posts mentioning Johnson, just before his first grade debut, in June of that year.

I'd be curious to see if there were any reservations about his ability, such as being shy of physical contact, etc. In general, the stuff we know so well now, at the bookend of his career.

Additionally, I'd quickly find out if he made his first grade debut from the U20s as opposed to the 'Reggies'! Did he? I recall he was 21.

We lost today 20-12 i think it was.

Lots of injuries to us. Apparantly the 1st half took 68 minutes to complete due to 2 ambulances being called.

Unsure how Flegg is going. Was going to go out and watch but was supposed to hit 40 degrees today in St Marys (where they were playing).
I flagged it. To hot

Like R & S I wasn't doing the 40c heat out in St. Marys. This year though I'm so back with the NSW Cup team. SG Ball as well. I've missed going to those games.

A word of warning though. Our juniors and reserves can have a great culture, and play great footy, whilst our first grade sucks. I don't know why this can be but it was the case during the last few seasons prior to the pandemic (2018 was an exception, but we still sucked in the first grade final).

Hopefully that's not the case this year and early signs show it won't be.

I missed the game too. I was ordered to attend a dogs first birthday. Who the F has a dogs first birthday? Anyway I was told I had a great time and that I was polite to the other dog owners so thats something, I guess.
Almost as pointless as a child’s first birthday party, just a lame excuse for a pissed up gossip session
