As much as I think you are a nutter, your taste in 60's-70's music is up there with the best. The Zoot's version of Elenour Rigby is sensational.
"The Real Thing", written by Johnny Young and produced by Molly Meldrum is an Australian masterpiece. "Part 3 Into Paper Walls" - the follow on from the Real Thing is just as good, if not a better piece of composed music.
The other greatest composed music from roughly that era is "Evie" part's 1, 2 and 3.
Arguably the greatest Australian composition ever.

Who cares if Lars wanted to let artists get the recognition they deserved when they spend x amount of hours/months in a studio bringing their music to their fans when all they did was rip it off the net and the bands don't get shut all for their hard work. He wasn't doing it JUST for metallica he did it for the music industry as a whole and I understand exactly where he is coming from. I'd be sh*tty to to know ur hard work and dedication is being ripped away from u by alot of people for free. The artists deserve the money they get from selling CDs.
People can say they're greedy and sh*t but metallica don't give a sh*t what people say they only care about getting their music to THIER fans and so the same goes for every other artist!

That's all well and good, but Lars speaking out and whinging about piracy wasn't the reason a lot of original Metallica fans gave up on them.
He started his crusade against piracy in 2000, the old Metallica fans stopped listening nearly 10 years earlier.

It was because of the hypocrisy of them. For years they poked fun at other bands for making film clips and taking the piss out of the clichés used by other bands. When they released the One clip they said it was a once off because the song was so special or something, blah, blah, blah.

Then they released the black album crap and it was completely different to their older stuff, more commercial. They started making clips and became exactly what they said they would never be. They are a band that they would've pointed and laughed at when they were making decent music.

Due to them becoming more commercial and money hungry in the early 90s, it was easy to just laugh at Lars crying about being a millionaire rockstar who was being dudded out of some money.

As for how the topic has gone since, Aussie rockbands.
I used to love when The Radiators - Gimme Head was played at the old discos, what a classic, everyone singing it.

I saw Chain/Matt Taylor perform many times, as I did with all the great Aussie blues/rock bands doing the circuit 1970 to 1977 ---- Bondi Lifesavers, Paddington Town Hall, Green Elephant Kensington, Chequers Night Club, Whiskies (might have the name/spelling wrong) on Oxford St Darlinghurst amongst so many other pubs, halls, taverns, etc, back then.

I think the best thing about those old Aussie bands is that some of the great frontmen and guitarists are still going around doing great acoustic sets. James Reyne, John Stephens, Mossy, the Angels are going around again. I really envy some of you guys. I would have loved to seen these guys at their prime

Whilst I kind of agree with you, that sounds like another wannabe non-conformist. "I don't conform because that's what every cool person does." In terms of mainstream Video Hits style music, you're really talking about pop and soft rock, in which case of course Australia's efforts at this are garbage because all pop and soft rock is garbage

Call me narrow-minded, but when people discuss Australia's greatest rock bands and mention the Oils and Chisel, I cry. IMHO Australia's greatest rock band is AC/DC. Freaking legendary band.
