His cards were marked after his last test at Lords. The wild swing at a wide ball that got him caught behind in the first innings with the team in desperate trouble would have been the last straw for selectors. Proved beyond doubt that he is just not up to the pressure of test cricket. That's the kind of thing that makes selectors go ok, that's enough.

And he got good scores in 3 of his last 4 tests.

I'd like to have a go in the spot he is supposed to bat. Opener. Batting all over the middle order is not where he will succeed.

If a middle order spot opened up I'd actually be against picking him. He should only be picked to open.

Please explain these "good scores". He failed in his last 2 tests FFS! Arsed an 80 odd which Ashton Agar outscored him...yes the number 11...lol. Hughes has no idea how to play spin, no thanks!

Shane Watson would kill to have a test average 3 runs lower than what he already has, a first class average 2 runs lower than he already has and 13 less test half centuries? Not to mention 64 less test wickets and erasing his best bowling in an innings of 6/33  Yeah, I'm sure he's really really desperate for that

I reckon Hughes should throw back on the wicket keeping gloves, And bat at 7

Haddin will retire next year or two. We are going to need a good gloveman who can average around mid 30s in test cricket. No one is screaming to be Haddins understudy, why not Hughes? He has that Allan Knott physique about him. Im sure BM would agree, its his only way to get back in the side really...

Chris Hartley.

But no doubt it will be Wade or Paine.

Watson averages 43.61. Hughes averages 45.39

His wickets mean nothing when he is batting at opener and number 3. His record is atrocious considering how long he has been given in a stable spot in the order and without being dropped.

Imagine if Hughes was given the same uninterrupted run at the top of the order. His average would be much higher than it is now.
