A little more than just kicking off two weeks earlier. That's PR's simplistic whine.
It's the crap that had to be cleared up in-between. Not exactly in the easiest of times.

I'm sure Rupert helped him and I'm sure Rupert got what he wanted so did Pete, he's now the Messiah.

Just listen to Paul Kent's absolute dribble about him, like he is a returning war general, a hero.

Is lachlan on the NRL board now?

Wasn't it Lachlan who said we could have a 17th team now.

Looks like it took 25 years but News got the game in the end.

Tbf they had the game until 2012, we had a few years of grace without their ownership. Time will tell how much we’ve just handed back to them. With 4 racing channels on Fox Is anyone surprised Vlandys is so in bed with them?

If we sell out to News again, what have we gained.

Is that a question or a statement?

First you downplay what even you referred to as a "win" with "so what". Now it's all futile because of a fear you have.

Credit where it's due. If he f**ks up then complain away. Until then Perth Red doesn't need an echo he can whinge enough for 10 men comfortably on his own.

Believe what you want .I've stated I couldn't give a rats what media involvement was or wasn't
They have shafted us over many years, also including Paul Kent.

The game gets back on 28th May in 5 days time, and it apparently just happened.I only care the jobs get done, whining solves nothing along the way.
The mob involved in Project Apollo should get wraps for the work they have done, ah but it's the fear of what media might have done sheesh.
Is it possible to rip into someone after the season has finished ,when a full assessment of good, bad or indifferent can be made? It's like giving someone their exam results, before they sit for it.

That was in response to your statement. Yes it's great we are back, fantastic we give it to the AFL. However in the long term it's just chest beating really. All this praise the messiah crap that has been spewed by the media in recent weeks is sickening and hiding a clear agenda. What is concerning is there is no independent voice in the media questioning why he is doing 6 and 7 year deals or what is the plan with digital. Sure do a 3 year deal, why rush.

Having a difference of opinion is not "whining".

Little more than a difference of opinion ,when you stated the early start was nothing to cheer about, when it is obvious more than that factor were involved getting to where the code is.
IOW ignoring the other obstacles needed to be overcome ,is not exactly giving credit where it's due, just being negative PR like.

My point is there is more here to what is going on, don't be blinded by the fact we are starting two weeks early, that's the short sighted view.

Yes football wise it's great, but my argument is not the football side of it, it's more the business side as I believe PR's argument is also.

Are you not a fraction cynical when the mainstream media particularly on one side suddenly gushes all over V'landys....is there not more to this then just an early start date. Join all the dots and suddenly Fox have a 7 year deal, Greenberg is run out of town on lies etc etc.

I totally get why people are cynical or mistrusting. We’ve been let down by chairmen and CEOs since day dot. I worry about the megalomaniacal traits of changing rules on a whim without discussing it with the clubs. I’m suss of the cosy media relationship. But I’m still prepared to wait before passing judgement on Vlad. Maybe he jumped early on the media deal or maybe he’s brought the game some security over the coming economic downturn. Wait and see how Fox deal with the other code. Give him his due, though. AFL fans and Fitzsimmon are watching rugby league next week.

Look ,my concerns are the code and clubs survive. It appears that is the case.
Unless people live on another planet ,we all know about the obstacles thrown in the way of the code ,to get up and running. It appears that has all been solved now.
The business side includes income for the next x number of years, that provides some certainty on grants to clubs and how much available for grassroots.Uncertainty for a long times not businesslike, ask union.

PR has an agenda driven axe to grind because of his club waiting in the wings.I take his views with the same sincerity as I do with what the media says. The media was all over Greenberg once.I backed him many times.
But he lost me over a couple of decisions. That being said I had no problem with him as CEO, but under current economic circumstances, I doubt he would have been strong enough to rumble the broadcasters.
No one will here know what went on there.
Is it a 7 year deal ? I haven't seen the actuals. Even if it is , the code has 7 years of reliable income to count on.You suggesting we wait till end of 2022 to negotiate? Good luck.

Ch9 the sooner they go ,the better. They promote AFL better than their NRL.

I am not into conspiracy theories,I'm into getting the job done, if the media is on side good ,if they are not tough t*tty.
I'm not naive enough to believe media are straight shooters, are honest and wouldn't screw you if they had the opportunity. All football codes in this country rely heavily on them for revenue, sometimes you have to act like gentlemen to get them onside.

I repeat if we had no TV deal, and still had 2020 playing uncertainty, would we blame the media or V'Landys?

We use the media, the media uses us and at times for many years abused us.
It's just that the AFL uses their media better than we do, and if you are into conspiracy theories try that relationship as a test case.

The media is in a changing landscape. They are desperate, three years time would be a great to go out and see what the competition offers.

This pandemic won't last forever, we've been on restrictions for what 2 or 3 months how will it be in two years.

I have no doubt as much as this return date is about "saving" rugby league it was more about saving Kayo and Fox. Murdochs weight would have been right in there with the politicians.

If the game wins from all this then fantastic.

I also believe Greenberg was gone pandemic or not, the pandemic just provided a convenient smokescreen.

On a positive side I enjoy that V'landys gives it to the AFL and has a bit of an edge when speaking, reminds me of a bloke standing at the bar with a beer and a smoke.

What the whiners fail to grasp is
We didn't have much other choice than to go for a new deal .
If we went to court to fight it out with 9 & maybe fox to see who was in the right contract wise .then the NRl would have died ...the costs would be crippling with no income coming in .
Can Those who bitch please tell me how The NRl would have survived .
There would be no playing this year.
All funds in reserve would be eaten up
Then after you explain that .
Please explain where the mythical media $$ are going to come from if not Fox & 9.
7 no chance
10 no chance
So where?

VLad did what he had to & yes he might have had to make some concessions ..as happens in negotiations .
But this was an unprecented event .

I repeat ad nauseam,I have little time for the Murdochs ,but one thing they do ,is pay their Tv contracts .
That gives some degree of income certainty for a set number of years.
I remember ch10 not that long ago, who couldn't pay the bills and ch9 got rugby league.
The FTA TV mob are living on borrowed time, and they know it, with their axing of staff.
