I’d drop manly and create a new club repressing the whole of the north Sydney, north shore area. That’d be a good start to sorting out the underperforming Sydney market. At the moment most clubs only have around 15k committed fans, we need to double that. Decent stadiums and large catchments are only way to do it.

The only one underperforming in this instance is you PR.But that's consistent. Noticed you used the word "repressing "? Quite accurate! It is repressing rugbyleague in northern Sydney. You have stated something correct for a change!

Regarding Adelaide, i reckon while Allianz stadium is being built, maybe the roosters take 4-5 games there next year, while they're popular. (in form)
Also having Tedesco, Cordner, Mitchell, Keary and Radley possibly all in NSW selection next year face up there in State of Origin will surely, get a bit of a following, if say, Roosters vs Storm in april, then SOO in may, then 3 to 4 more roosters matches vs teams that wouldn't nessesarely sell out in SCG for that year.( vs titans maybe)
This would give the NRL a good gauge on support within Adelaide to see if its viable for a relocation or expanded team added there,
Same goes for Souths when ANZ closes down for its refurbishment, take 5 games to perth, get some support for an NRL club before ushering in a franchise, they should have the Eels do it last year, somewhere they could expand to, instead of the dreadful attendances at ANZ, No point in just staging one Origin, then don't come back, get these teams without a home to take their home games to new markets.
SHARKS next year
ROOSTERS next year
RABBITOHS Year after
DOGS Year after
thats 4 sydney teams without a home stadium over the next 2-3 years, that's 20 games that could be played in Adelaide, Perth, Central Coast, Christchurch, Fiji, Cairns and maybe PNG, Rockhampton, Darwin, Hobart.
Now im not saying do all of these, but pick 2 locations you think can have a team, and get these 2 teams to play 5 home games there, i heard sharks will be playing in fiji, but why take one game, take more, instead of holding at Kogarah, it will make the other 7 home games there more valuable to fans knowing there's only 7 good matches, not 12 (with some dead rubbers included, take those to fiji)

The realistic problem with this is there is no strategy or control by the NRL. The clubs just do what they wish depending on if they can get the State Govt of that city to stump up some cash. There is no strategy, surprise, surprise.

Their is no strategy because the NRL doesn't have a vision for where the game should be in 30-40 years from now.

Sharks have done the right thing and relocated themselves

Unfortunately it's just up the road to Kogarah. But small steps.

Too bad they didn't have the big enough balls to decide to play outside the state or country for the season. Now that would have been interesting.

Too right!

If the NRL did have a say or was able to offer incentive then I think a team, whose home ground is under reconstruction for X amount of years could temporarily relocate to a proposed/possible expansion city for those years. The incentive the NRL could offer is flights or cash or whatever. This could then guage what level of support there is for a full time rugby league team in that city/area. Seeing as the majority of teams awaiting construction are Sydney/NSW teams anyway, the club can still stay engaged with Sydney based fans and offer memberships for tickets to ALL their away games in Sydney.

This way you can still boost crowds in other stadia in Sydney (admittedly it would be reflected on the Home teams' attendance for the night) but you can also capitalise on the potential new market without a full time commitment. If the numbers are favourable over the 2-3 years they are based there then the NRL could look at dropping a club there..... or the club that has temporarily located there might like it an make the move permanent.

Eg: Sharks could take up Perth as their home for the 2 year build of their leagues club (I know they put the vote to their members but this is hypothetical)
Roosters could have gone to CC or Adelaide for the 3 year build of Allianz (even if they only attract a small crowd in Adelaide, say 8,000, this may still be more that the averages they get out of Allianz)
Souths/Bulldogs/Whoever could send their ganes to NZ.

Grow the regular interest in the game in the areas you want to move to/establish in, test the year in/year out market and then you have a better idea rather than the handful of games that are sent there through the year. The biggest burden might be the compansation to the clubs that go there.

Just an idea but happy to hear others' thoughts on it.

There would need to be significant financial incentive from the NRL, the fans would never buy it (listen to the Frank Discussion podcast whinge about not being able to ride to the ground lol), Sharks wouldnet even take one game to PNG despite financial support showing a distinct lack of vision or ambition, the media would slam the NRL for forcing relocations and moving games out of Sydney etc etc. Our game is backward, innovative ideas are not welcome!

Is the continuing growth in clubs like Newtown, Norths, Wenty and Mounties flying in face of rationalising Sydney clubs

Serous Siv. You honestly think those clubs are growing. Poor old Newtown and the Bears are not anywhere near the top flight status. The others you mention are not known by the mainstream public . It's top flight status or zero as far as notable growth for any club . That's the way it is in Australia. Sure you can get your boutique speciality clubs with beer festivals etc but they are not mainstream discourse/knowledge.
