Thanks mate. I just took a look at General Chaos on Youtube. Looks pretty good. What about the other MD games, such as Streets of Rage 2, Sonic series, Revenge of Shinobi etc...

Did anyone ever play Shadowrun on the SNES? Sunk some serious serious hours into that one, I thought it was the coolest shit ever.

Some rippers in there, General Chaos and Micro Machines particularly are awesomely fun multiplayers.

I'd add Road Rash series, Streets of Rage series, Desert Strike series, Flashback, Gouls n Ghosts. Aladdin and Earthworm Jim are wonderful platformers often forgotten in the Sonic vs Mario market battle too:)

Is this conversation strictly for computers and consoles?

I remember some classic arcade games (back when they were 40c a credit) that I used to play all the time.

Golden Axe
Wonder Boy
Wardner
1942
Ghosts n Goblins
Double Dragon
Final Fight

God yes! That's where MAME is so brilliant, there's few coin ops that you can't find on it!

Not sure how I forgot road rash (I think number 3 was the best) and desert strike.

BF had already said he was playing Streets of Rage. Ghost and Goblins is heaps better via the arcade version. I chucked in Cool Spot for my token platformer as it was a lot of fun.

As for arcade games, my favorites are:

Scramble
The whole Gradius series
The whole Paradious series (Sexy Paridous being the fav of that series)
720
Slap Fight
Hyper Olympics
Xybots
Ghost n Goblins (I used to get a crowd when I played this as I could do the first run on 1-2 lives, 2nd run to finish the game is much harder) - The whole series is great.
Salamander
Wonderboy
R-Type
Crazy Climber

oh so hard to limit this list, I could go on for ages. One of the best things about MAME is discovering games you never knew existed.

Don't forget Neo Geo. Now with emulators, we can get all the great Neo Geo games that we could only dream of when we were kids. I love the manga animation that they incorporated. How funny was/is the Metal Slug series :D How good were games like Ninja Commando and Breakers Revenge?

Well you can see from my list I love shoot em ups. So something like twinkle star sprites on the neo geo was an awesome find.

Those horse riding games were great too!

Spent about 6 hours in one stretch on holidays trying to finish Sonic 2 again.

Forget emulators or trying to get the old dog working, about 2 years ago I bought a mega drive thingo from K-Mart. It's about the size of a wallet, takes the old original cartridges and has about a dozen games built in. Controllers are the old style too. Quality!

Taking it way back.. I got the Atari Flashback 4 for christmas! Perfect for the nostalgia loving 30-something who threw his 2600 and all his beloved games away long ago. Space Invaders ffs. You can't get more retro. And it has wireless controllers - futuristic!!!

Yars revenge was a classic. That said I had a coleco and it was just so much better than an Atari it wasn't funny. Pitstop, smurfs game, gorf, frenzy, zaxxon, lady bug, pitfall 2, miner 2049 er with graphics that at the time were heads and tails in front of the Atari and intellivision games.

Coleco was a great system for its time. Donkey Kong was nearly arcade perfect even back then. Whereas on Atari it looked like a goblin rolling cheese at the red power ranger

Have scramble on my arcade cab, damn good game. Crazy Climber! That, and Robotron are the reasons a may get a cab with double joystick control. Very hard to get decent home versions, but MAME does the job

Yeah Colecovision was so far ahead of the others, it was tragic it hit the shelves just at the dawn of the games crash. Along with the Vectrex, the Coleco was something special of the time.

Did anyone here have the Vtech Creativision? Licenced and Badged in Australasia as the Dick Smith Wizzard. Damn I wanted one of those! Had the Sega computer though, that had a killer Lode Runner cart

Nearly arcade perfect except it only had 3 levels instead of 4 and the I between scenes (how high can you go) were removed.
