Richardson calls for suburban footy to be axed

Correct, the year you have the game as your home game, it is always your #1 gate for the year.

Souths home gates have averaged more than the Roosters each year since 2007.
That is despite them never making the finals.

So for you to say that Rooster to Rabbitohs fans at 5 to 1 is fantasy.

Perhaps he is refering to the number of fans with jobs and/or more than one tooth

8 posts  what is your real account?

How can the Anzac game be our biggest draw card when we only host it every second year?

As for knocking the Scabs' membership babe it's because most of their members

1- received a free membership
2- don't exist
3- member numbers are counted as people who bought the bunny sticker for their car

Amazing how the scabs have all these members but still averaged less per game by big brother Easts.
Little brother has averaged less than us every year since 2005.

We were talking about home games Gomer.
Yes home attendances, and I got it right, but we've beaten easts every year since 2006, not 2005.

2007- us:15.7k, little brother:11.9
2008- us:14.6k,little brother:13.9
2009- us:14.7k,little brother:13.2
2010- us:17.3k,little brother:16.1
2011- us:14381,little brother:14344

Didn't see this mentioned elsewhere but I read Damien Irvine actually quoted as agreeing the Sharks Dragons derby should be played at SFS/SA. His point was the work required to stage it at Shark Park but surely it would come down to $s, wouldn't it?

Would the crowd be that much bigger at the SFS? Surely they wouldn't play it at SA? And what about the lost trade at the leagues club and the feel-good factor in the shire?

I think the Sharks/Dragons derby is a perfect example of a game that should be played as a sellout at Shark Park rather than the SFS?

I would prefer the game remained at Endeavour.
The Leagues Club made a motza on saturday night, and a lot of it was Saints fans money!

This Year?

Sharks v Dragons tonight would have got 30k if we were smart enough to play rivalry games at big stadiums.

Do people understand being "sold out" is not a good thing when you have bigger stadiums available. Being sold out means fans not seeing the game and cash not seeing the coffers of clubs.

I don't think it wouldn't have. It would have been a huge contradiction to have a local derby contested out of the area of which both teams come from.

20,000 members and can only average 14k

Even the year we made the spoon we were right behind the scabs. The only thing bumping those stats up are 20,000 dogs fans every year.

Souths' dodgy crowd figures

SOUTH Sydney have conceded they include stadium workers, media, referees - and possibly players - when counting home crowds.

The stunning admission came after a special investigation into the attendance at Monday night's game against Gold Coast Titans at ANZ Stadium.
After monitoring each turnstile, The Daily Telegraph's clickers tracked 7522 people into the ground from the time gates opened at 4.45pm until midway through the first half.
The Rabbitohs later announced an official crowd of 9827.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson then confirmed "club staff, stadium staff, media and officials" partly accounted for the discrepancy of 2305 people.
"People that come from (our) club staff, the other club and referees don't come through the check system (turnstiles)," Richardson said.
"There's a whole range of people that go in through other entrances."
The revelation provides an insight into how clubs count crowds at a time when attendances are being monitored closely as Sydney's nine teams struggle for growth in a congested market.
A Souths statement emailed on Wednesday afternoon in response to the survey added: "There were un-ticketed guests who entered via a staff gate that appear to have missed your scrutiny.
"Added to this are groups such as club staff, stadium staff, media, officials etc. who haven't been counted by The Daily Telegraph clickers."
The terms used in the statement are wide enough to include players, referees, coaches, and mascots. Staff employed by the stadium, including caterers, waiters and customer service personnel, might also be inferred.
But aside from referees, Richardson declined to elaborate exactly which "guests" were counted over and above paying customers, season ticket-holders and corporate guests.
The Rabbitohs, however, did confirm that they only counted season ticket holders who turned up on the night.
To further reconcile the discrepancy, Souths pointed to a VIP ground carpark entry used by players, match officials and selected corporates. Located on Level 0, the entry is not marked by a turnstile. It can be accessed by about 300 car spaces and guests who are specifically dropped at the door.
But neither the statement nor Richardson revealed how many people used the carpark entrance -- or the above-ground un-ticketed entrance - on Monday night.
"The observers ... made no allowance for corporate and VIP guests who arrived by car into ANZ Stadium's level 0 parking, nor guests who gained admission prior to the opening of public gates and therefore prior to their calculations," the statement read.
"Closing your count 25 minutes into the first half produced further errors. The official attendance count is concluded 10 to 15 minutes into the second half, as patrons continue to arrive until this time at every event."
The Daily Telegraph arrived at the venue an hour before gates opened and witnessed only a handful of patrons in the precinct. There was a line of just 15 people at one public entrance on the stadium's eastern side at 4.45pm.
Even fewer patrons were observed when the count ceased 15 minutes from halftime.
Richardson said he was "comfortable" with the official crowd.
"There's been no fudging of figures here," he said.
"I've got nothing more to say, no more information to give.
"We are more than comfortable that was the crowd."
ANZ Stadium declined to respond, on the basis that clubs are responsible for crowd counts.

So you wouldn't care if the NRL moved Cronulla's biggest game of the year from Shark Park to Homebush or SFS?

Do think the Sharkies fans would travel that far?

Genuine question.

If the NRL made it worth their while, ie marketed and hyped it up, created great pre match atmosphere and entertainment, free entry and give aways for the kids, fulltime fireworks show etc etc. Time to make going to the footy a can't miss event, not just a 2 hour afternoon out if the weather is nice.

In other words, lose money on the event.

Or in other other words, changing venues to ANZ is a sh*t idea, so the NRL have to ramp up the advertising, free tickets, even f*cking fireworks (costing, what, $200k???).

You are just proving that it is better to play at suburban stadiums!

Fireworks during the day - is that one of the genius AFL ideas that you wank over?

I agree 100%. The NRL should not care in any way about ANZ being a white elephant, it was poorly desinged in the first place.

The problem is that if we want another ground it has to be funded by banks and governments who WILL NOT make anz a white elephant.

There will be no new "big" Western Sydney ground while ANZ is still standing. It will be 2030 before it is handed back to the government.

Only then will we maybe see a "Suncorp of the west" scenario for Parra, Wests, Canterbury.

Untill then, the best hope is upgrades to Parra stadium.
