OK new topic
What's the advantage of completing the WC qualifiers a year earlier?

. Additionally the Board determined that qualification for World Cups will be concluded two years prior to each event with the qualifiers for the 2021 World Cup in England to be completed by December 2019.

See that the frigging flaw in GB...Wales and Scotland's best players will be away playing for GB,if selected, while Wales & Scotland are trying to qualify for the world cup!!

Excluding the stupidity in having the GB tour of Australia / NZ plus potentially a World Nines on at the same time as the end of the RLWC Qualifiers, the advantage of deciding the qualifiers two years out is it allows for the tournament organisers to strategically pick venues based upon match ups and maybe even get on sale earlier.

Whilst England may not get a huge advantage out of it, I'm sure for 2025, they'll want to consider playing some teams like France in Canada and playing the Pacific Island sides in California.

Advantage would also be giving the qualifying sides more games in lead up year to further develop their competitiveness.

All that it would take for the three rep weekends to happen is for the NRL to decide that all three origin games will be played on weekends as a stand alone fixture. If the one stand-alone event from next year onwards is a success and talk of player burn out and lack of interest from missing players during the origin period continues (which I can't see how it won't continue), I can see the NRL setting aside three (possibly consecutive) weekends for Origin. Once that happens content will be needed for TV for Saturday and Sunday and we will have the Pacific Tests as an existing brand (that is growing in popularity) ready to step in and provide that content.

Its not even necesary for them to be on Weekends. They can stay on Wednesday if that is better for ratings (crowds arent an issue on those nights)...

All that would need to happen is the NRL being put on hold for a few weeks, with all of these other games played over the weekends

Personally, Id have it spread over 5 weeks (origin played in 1st, 3rd, 5th) with the various rep comps played in between. A World Champions 9s, with small international teams and the left over NRL players could go well; no limit to how many days or venues that is spread across.

Extended Pacific to Asia/Pacific is an interesting one. Maybe Lebanon could then be included being technically Asia.

Could look something similar to what adamkungl suggested with 2 tiers.

1 - PNG, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Lebanon, Cook Islands.
2 - Vanuatu, Solomon Is, Nieu, Phillipines, Thailand, Hong Kong.

Two pools of 3, and played in Sydney would probably be necessary for tier 2. Tier 1 played between the islands and Australia, whichever is feasible.
