Perhaps the clubs should just hand them the NRL trophy?

After all, losing is probably a 'restraint to trade' these days

Works for me..... They wanna f**k with the system well we will see how the system f**ks back.... Ill gladly save 30 bucks on a train ticket and entry into the ground if it means that the roosters see that their little mutiny isnt gonna work

The clubs forfeiting games will just give the Roosters a leg up the ladder, but certainly we as supporters can boycott the Roosters home games., and their TV appearances.

So the big, bad Roosters are threatening legal action! How dare they, the arrogance of them. How dare they look after their own interests, How dare they protect their club and How dare they invest in their own future.
I have never come across a profit making organisation that doesn't look after it's own interests.
We should all get one thing straight here. The Salary cap IS a restraint of trade, The NRL has even admitted as much. Anyone who calls the Roosters arrogant are wrong. It's the NRL that is arrogant. How dare they tell clubs how much money they can spend on players. It would be like telling Rupert Murdoch that he can't spend $500 million buying a newspaper company because Al Bronkawicz down the road only has $100 million and that would be unfair.
The NRL can avoid a court case by simply raising the cap for season 2005. It's up to them. And for all of you fools out there who are calling for the Roosters head, wake up to yourself. Easts shouldn't and won't feel responsible for any other club other than their own and why should they.
Did St George and Souths or Manly and Parramatta or Brisbane give a rat's arse about the Roosters when they were top of the pile? Of course they didn't. Denis Fitzgerald is critical of anything the Roosters do because he's jealous of them and for Steve "Turdy" Mortimer to be critical of the Roosters is laughable! It would be like Saddam Hussein taking someone to task over human rights issues.
As far as the Roosters developing our own juniors goes then it's a bit difficult when SG Ball in his capacity as president of the NSWRL gave his beloved Souths most of Easts rightful areas back in the 50's. Maybe the NRL should right the ship and give Easts back suburbs like Randwick and Coogee, then The Roosters will be able to develop more local juniors and quite rightly call them their own. As it stands the borders are ridiculously unfair.
News Ltd and it's lackey journos have put the boot into Easts for it's stance but those of us who are over 15 can well remember that it was Murdoch and his News Ltd who tried to destroy the competition back in the 90's. Where was their regard for struggling clubs when the war started? For them to wax lyrical about player payment restrictions is mind blowing.
How would News have gone if they had to operate under a salary cap when they were recruiting for Sewer League. I can picture them now saying to Brad Clyde and Ricky Stuart, "Sorry guys we can only offer you $50,000 to come over to us, It's because of the cap you know!".
So all of you who want to attack the Roosters and thousands of you will, do so at the risk of your own hypocricy. Easts WILL WIN this case if it goes to court and if the NRL has half a brain they will bite the bullet and do the right and proper thing by raising the Salary Cap for season 2005. The ball is in david Gallop's court!

As much as I agree with the sentiment, any team that boycotted a game just because they didn't like the opposition would face a pretty hefty fine from the NRL, at the bare minimum...

Were Super League clubs fined for boycotting a round of matches?

It is an idea, but if it went ahead it wouldn't be above the Roosters to sue the individual clubs for loss of income.

Weak arguments Gooster Cogburn. This whole saga smells of greed and the NRL must stand up to them, even to up to the point of expelling them. :x

Gooster cockburn:

did the Roosters want the cap raised when Jason Cayless was forced to leave Parramatta and sign with the Roosters or Brent Finch to leave Canberra or Justin Hodges to leave Brisbane

Where were the Roosters claiming restraint of trade then?

Parramatta may or may not have cared when they were on top but they did play by the rules and not bully the NRL into changing them.

The Eels 2001 Grand Final team was

1. Brett Hodgson - Gone to Wests Tigers
2. Luke Burt - Still at Parramatta
3. Jamie Lyon - Still at Parramatta
4. David Vaealiki - Still at Parramatta
5. Jason Moodie - Retired
6. Michael Buettner - Gone to Wests Tigers
7. Jason Taylor - Retired
8. Nathan Cayless - Still at Parramatta
9. Brad Drew - Gone to Canberra
10. Michael Vella - Still at Parramatta
11. Nathan Hindmarsh - Still at Parramatta
12. Ian Hindmarsh - Gone to Canberra
13. Daniel Wagon - Still at Parramatta

14. PJ Marsh - Gone to Warriors
15. Andrew Ryan - Gone to Bulldogs
16. Alex Chan - Gone to Melbourne
17. David Solomona - Gone to Wakefield

18. Chad Robinson - Gone to Roosters
19. Jason Cayless - Gone to Roosters
20. Scott Donald - Gone to Manly

Only 7 of 20 are still at the club.

An alternate solution to avoid possible fines or legal action would be to not bring the proper 1st grade team to roosters matches. Injury report might read: Stubbed toe, broken nail, tooth ache, etc.
Crowd numbers would be almost non existent - even for a roosters match

Who was the club who took the draft to court along with Terry Hill?

They've only threatened action. Might just be a threat. The Broncos have threatened legal action to get certain rules removed many times in the past, but have never taken action.

I think the paper summed it up pretty well. When the Goosters were crap, they were happy to pick up the players the rest couldn't afford to keep because of the cap. Now the boots on the other foot, it's a sudden change of heart, bunch of bloody tossers who are quite rightly fast taking over the mantel of the Competitions most hated club, they've certainly got my vote. Why don't they go the other way about solving these issues, such as concessions for bringing players on in the game, concessions for development, concesions for service. Instead they go off trying to disrupt the whole competition, they are carrying on like a bunch of spoilt brats who want to take their bat and ball and go home. My message "BLOODY TAKE YOUR BAT AND BALL AND PISS OFF!!"

The rules are there for a reason, and the Roosters should follow it just like everyone else. The end of the salary cap is the end of rugby league, simple as that. Threatening legal action? What a fn joke
