There is a lot of posts, thoughts, opinions around the fullback position for this week and I think Aekins who has been selected in the role will be there whether you like it or not.

In my own family the wife and eldest son are on the same page as most on here but I just don’t see it.

Aekins will be fullback unless something unforeseen happens to him between now and game day.

His selection is not a smokescreen for some swift move to confuse our opponents Aekins will play fullback this week.

Then we lose if that is the case

Well regardless, they've put him on ice for a while. Either he is injured, or they think right now isn't the time for a return. There are better people than us who are steering the Panther ship ATM, so I'm inclined to trust their judgement.

Not sure they’ve put him on ice, and he definitely isn’t injured, they just prefer Luai at 5/8.

I think we’ve got a really talented guy, one of the most talented I’ve seen come through in a long time. It makes sense to get him in the team. He has so much more talent than Caleb Aekins.

Staines is back next week. He solves the fullback issue so it is just a stop gap

So why not run out how we finished the game? Well as close as possible. I doubt we get an exemption for Smith with Burns in the squad.

That is usually how coaches play it when short term injuries hit. That is still better then Aekins and MWZ being in the squad

20 mins at the end of the last game doesn’t make him a “safer” option. Maybe if it’d been close to a whole game, but it’s 20 mins.

May is preferred on the bench, in terms of continuation it makes sense to keep him there as he’s now played several games from that position.

I’m sure Ivan and his support staff all recognise Matt Burton is potentially a far greater talent than Caleb Aekins.

However, for this week they are running with Aekins and surely they are better placed to make such decisions than we are as fans?

I’d like to see Dane Laurie get a debut, but that is just me as a fan.

I’ll put my faith in Ivan and his crew they surely know best and seem to be doing OK thus far in 2020 albeit there could be some testing times ahead now we are impacted with unforeseen injuries.

Hopefully, they do to Matt like they did with Stephen.

It is that and the minutes in the halves too. It is different if it was long term

Assuming Staines is back next week.

He would be fullback. Leaving Naden/Crichton centres.

So a stop gap makes sense for a week

Not him alone. He offers nothing in attack. No Api so I struggle to see how we score points if we run out 1-17
It’s one player?

You’ve talked about our supposed depth and yet now because we apparently have to play Aekins we are certain to lose against the Titans?

I don’t get it.

We have 12 players out.. so more than then one player

With that 1-17 where does the points come from?

He looked alright when he ran for 300 metres on his debut. Give the kid a break and let’s back him regardless of our personal preferences.

Aekins is a much better player than he is given credit for. He is no Tedesco and not as good as our own number 1 fullback but I have confidence in him in so much as he will not let us down and given some breaks may even a surprise a few. He was recognised as the NSw Cup best player or best fullback a season or two back which says a lot. I hope he has a blinder against the Gold Coast and I agree we probably need him too.

NSW Cup is one thing... but hasn't showed it in the top grade.

Crichton
Laurie

should be next up and Burton in the 17 somewhere

Seriously Jane I am flabbergasted by the talk on here around the non selection of Matt Burton.

Do we collectively as fans truly believe our brains trust are totally stupid.

Burton could be a superstar in the making, could be. Ivan and everyone else at the club are well aware of this fact, trust me.

His time will come, whether it is this week, next week, next month or next year only time will tell.

I have no doubt he is going to be huge for us, once he fills out, has another full off season he will be great next year, just need to be patient.

Again that creates points how?

I prefer to be an optimist you on the other hand ?

I don’t understand the death riding the kid. He deserves better than that and the fact you believe his selection automatically consigns us to losing against the Titans is farcical.
