Hey you used him not being able to watch as an argument against me previously!!
No I said lower grades which mostly aren't televised.

I can't help but think Maloney's had a big say at training to influence the change in playing style in recent weeks. Suits him down to the ground and you can see him really taking ownership of the attack on the field.
Much the same as he did when we were struggling under Hook.

Exactly what I have been thinking. We were playing to Dave's mate's plan until he was forced to listen to Maloney.I can't help but think Maloney's had a big say at training to influence the change in playing style in recent weeks. Mr Cleary, thank you for your insights into how you did it, well done. It would have been good to have seen the team start the year where it finished it, you know, playing well enough to be in the top five and fit enough to finish games strongly with the best second half of any team in the NRL. Still, as you say, you needed to get to know the team and those pies wouldn't eat themselves. Say hi to Dave for me.Hard for a new coach at a club to know the strength &weakness of the squad 100%.Iam certain the training methods next season will be tailored based on where we are at with player development and what the team needs.
I think Ivan recognised a few issues with our attitudes a few weeks into the season and gone about fixing it with what is available rooster wise.Panthers were laughable at one stage but now we are full of applause thanks to Coaching staff and the Players..very exciting to say the least..
Oh I've totally misunderstood and look like a goose.
Sometimes I don't make my point well. On that would of known who is in the team from training and the odd game. However not every game to see who plays where.
He would of seen every FG he played and like us wondered why x player is there etc. so not exactly a new coach
They said on Fox the other day it was 4 frames late, that's 1/6 of a second. If it were late/high the charge should be Dangerous Contact, which is 100 points for grade 1 and would have been no weeks. His arm is used in the tackle. If they fight it I hope they take a good barrister in there with them, otherwise just take the week.So now they arw saying kiks charge is for a shoulder charge. Can't even make up there mind. On field said late and high.
When we first had injury problems in the centres, remember it was Ivans instinct to select second rowers there. Remember Fui in the tigers game? He only brought Naden in when nothing else worked.
He had To’o to select because Philips got sacked for DUI
Tim Grant had to get an injury for Mitch Kenny to come into the squad after Ivan persisting with Katoa for ages.
The only players he dropped were outside backs in Mansour & DWZ.
Most of this was dumb luck, not tactics.
I know you don’t like or rate Cleary as a coach, but that’s a load of shit. How does he not deserve credit for promoting Naden, Too and Kenny to first grade? These were players not deemed good enough by Gould or Griffin to be in the top 30. But Cleary picked them and promoted them from outside the top 30, and they have helped totally transform the team. So who else deserves credit for picking them to play first grade?
Anybody who claims that any of the 3 were obvious logical choices to be promoted is delusional. You said he had Too to promote because Phillips was sacked - but he only had Too to select because se he saw the potential in him to promote to him to the top 30 so he could select him. That is only a logical choice in hindsight, but go back and look at the comments about Too on this site after his first grade debut and how little posters on here thought of him, and you will see that was hardly a logical or lucky choice.
And who besides Cleary would of thought of promoting a Kenny, non hooker outside the 30, to play hooker in first grade? You said that Grant had to be injured for Kenny to come into the squad, but Cleary had picked Keny from nowhere to play hooker, and he got to stay in the squad because of Grants injury, not get picked by Cleary because of Grants injury.
And Naden, he had been at 3 clubs without getting a debut in first grade, and again was outside the top 30, and again was not one of the logical choices from reserve grade to be promoted. And in hindsight after 6 weeks of blitzing it looks like an obvious choice, but in reality that was not the case at all going back 6 weeks ago, when the team ,and Cleary in particular, was copping it from everywhere.
What changes were made were due to coaching and not good luck though?
Kenny, To'o and Naden got their starts due to injuries or poor displine from those infront of them.
While we had taken the chances given. Much of it was dumb luck so far anyway
Neither Naden nor Kenny was in the development squad. So if not for injuries and an exemption they don't play. How is the good planning from the coach? Or management for that matter? It is dumb luck
As I just said in a response to a post from Herbert, what an absolute load of shit. How is it dumb luck? Seven weeks ago Cleary was copping it from everywhere and under all sorts of pressure. Him picking Naden, Kenny, and Too from outside the 30 were not obvious, easy choices, especially when under intense pressure. So given he made bold choices, and those choices have paid off in helping transform the team, that is on the coach for those selections, not down to dumb luck.
The easiest thing he could of done 7 weeks ago was keep selecting players from within the top 30 and blame the roster he had inherited.
It is not dumb luck! He saw the potential in those players out of all the players in and outside the top 30. Can you seriously say they were the logical players to be promoted, and can you show me any posts from anyone on here, or anyone at all from the media, suggesting those three players should be playing first grade?
They looked that way to me, and to others.
There was also reports that the team did less fitness work and more ball work over the summer.
Fitness may not have been the only reason we started poorly, but I think it was a contributing factor.
Could they play FG before injuries/suspension?
No, but there were other players he could of selected.
And the top 30 was who he inherited as a squad.
