KUTTABUL winger Ratu Delanimati on Saturday showed the class which has rugby league’s Parramatta Eels very interested.
Delanimati, 19, played in the Camelboks’ premiership team last season and later trialled with the Eels, NRL grand finalists in 2009.
“He’s come back to us and he played exceptionally well in the 10s on the weekend,” Kuttabul coach Cameron Spencer said yesterday.
“He’ll play with us in the 15s, but he has a shoulder injury at the moment which may require surgery.
“He trialled really well with them (Parramatta).
“A problem is he hasn’t been through the league processes, and we were able to get him in touch with a Brisbane State League outfit, but unfortunately he has this injury he sustained with Parramatta.
“I hope that he’ll get the surgery this year and look at next year going down to Brisbane.”
Delanimati played in Kuttabul’s 12-all draw with Brothers, which was cut short when Camelboks player David Black was taken to hospital after clashing heads with team-mate Louis Kearn (see Page 3).
The game was the last of seven played at Whitsunday Sports Park at Airlie Beach in the second weekend of the Mackay 10s pre-season competition, which included for the first time teams from Hamilton Island and the Gold Coast, along with country clubs Whitsunday Raiders and Bowen Mudcrabs.
The Hamilton Island side proved competitive, beating Bowen 19-0 and Slade Point 26-5, but losing 12-10 to Whitsunday and 14-5 to Kuttabul.
