Buhrer is the worst player to ever play origin.

He is a below average first grader. Under sized, slow and not skilful enough to be a playmaker. He is a poor mans Kostjaysn, who is a poor mans Matt Hilder.

We need some large athletes to throw into the mix and we keep chasing plodders. We are going to keep getting steamrolled.

JM already addressed most of what you've said here. The thing that stuck out most for me in this post though is your claim that Buhrer is slow. Buhrer was the second fastest at manly over 40m when they had a backline of Stewart, Robertson, Oldfield, Matai, Lyon, D Williams etc.

I wouldn't complain if we picked up Buhrer... would prefer Vaughan though

I understand Parra spoke to Vaughan, then swiftly retreated when learning what he was on at the Raiders. It was apparently in excess of $500k , put that down to Ricky's salary cap management, no wonder they are trying to move him on after what they are paying Jumior Paulo

If that's true then they are going to need to move him on and maybe they will pay some of the freight to get it done.

Buhrer is not my favourite player, but what I will say is: If it's a Buhrer for Uate swap- then we get the better end of the deal. No question.

Make Manly suffer.

Plenty of names have been thrown up that we are seriously looking at - Bird, Kostjasyn, Vaughan, Buhrer, Wardle. Not to mention some others that have also been suggested like Heighington, Douglas, Matulino and Hoffman.

I wonder how many of these we could actually afford.

8. Douglas
9. Kostjasyn
10. Vaughan
11. Buhrer
12. Sione
13. Bird

14. Levi
15. J Saifiti
16. D Saifiti
17. Barnett

That's without considering the Mullen to hooker idea which seems like it has legs.

Wardle in the centres I suspect.

How good is Pythian? Fullback possibility?

It's just weird that Brown wants to punt Randall and then goes out and buys two similar players. Anyway.

Not really. Randall was on stupid money for his level of experience and talent (or lack there of) - thanks again Hages. If we're going to pay that sort of money for that type of player I'd much prefer it be someone like Kosjacyn who's had experience in a premiership winning side. Hell, and if signing Buhrer means we're not paying Aku 500k to play reserve grade then the swap speaks for itself. Randall was on stupid money for a player that let's be honest, wouldn't have even made a FG debut at any other club.

The only one I'm really not keen on is Douglass - but I understand we're not exactly spoilt for options. I'd prefer Korbin - I know Douglass has a lot more size but he's a very "plays like Jane" type.

I know there's all this talk of forwards (which we need) but I hope we've put enough aside to have a serious crack at a good fullback.

I think that adding experience to our forward pack will at least help us compete in more games next year as we hopefully won't get monstered by the opposition quite so much and we'll have a bit more toughness in our defence.

That being said we're still unlikely to score points without a decent fullback in our side. We need someone who has a passing game. There aren't a lot of good fullbacks on the market just now so I doubt we're going to be able to address this for the 2017 season. In the mean time I think that putting Ross in the #1 jumper is our best bet.

I could take or leave Douglas - I think he is a professional and reliable, but probably someone whose role we could fill internally. If he is being squeezed out though at the right price I would take him, which could be on the cards given the media talk.

He may not be the most intimidating prop but attitude and work ethic wise I would take Douglas over Korbin.

I'm indifferent about Sims. He did start to show some drive later in the season. We know he can play but he needs to lift.
He'll be there in the 17 next season.
Mataora is also likely. He needs to start and not come off the bench. Pauli will get a go if he works on his fitness. King will get a go with some work on his handling. Same applies with Barnett.

I seriously doubt we'll get Bird for 2017. He's holding the cards. A year on his contract and it's been stated he is waiting for salary cap changes in 2018. That might see him finish up at the Titans. No need for him to leave unless they have serious cap issues.

I have asked this a couple of times now with no answer - has anyone actually watched Pythian play fullback?

I did a couple of times in the u20s. He did good but I think he's a natural half not fullback (but hey - better than a natural winger, at least halves have passing skills). He did look very decent playing there but a lot of kids can look good playing in an unfamiliar position at that level. From what I remember really competitive kid. Missed a few reads at the back but really attacked the ball.

I don't understand why we are bothering to replace "reserve graders" on the way up with "toilers" on the way down.

I would rather go for She-Rex than Buhrer, not because he is a better player or has a better attitude, but because he is something we lack - size.

We seem intent on having a team full of slow undersized tackle bots, so we can lose every game 18-6.
So you're just a size queen then?

Anyone with any idea about anything would never pick she-Rex over anyone else. Biggest pea heart in the game. Has all the physical attributes, but no idea how to use them

We have no impact. That's my point.

Neither does she Rex. That's my point.

Want to make a point about us lacking impact? Don't name one of the most pathetic excuses for a forward the game has ever seen to try and make it

Point taken.

Can see the interest in Buhrer from a stats point. I just keep waiting for us to sign someone who is actually going to create something - because we don't have that.
