If we loose Pete who is our back up with experience, if we want to challenge we need more than 17 first graders.

Tigers
Storm
Sharks(touch and go with Leutele, similar types)
Dragons
Warriors
Bulldogs
Titans
Souths

He would probably get a go over Moga as well at Brisbane...

That's just IMO.

He would never be highly sought on the open market but all those clubs have starting centres in the same boat.

Serious? Who is he better than at those clubs?

Sharks alone would have Bird, Leutele and Beale in front of him

Pete is much better than Beale. As I said, touch and go with Leutele.

I am very serious. Pete is a much better player than Cheyse Blair who is starting for the best team in the comp.

Centre seems to be the new low budget position, teams opting for solid rather than outstanding. It's clearly evident when you look at rep sides and there is rarely a specialist club centre actually picked at centre.

Pete would fit into most teams as JM has said for that reason.

I'd be disappointed to lose him as I think he loves the club but I can't be angry if he wants to chase the $ overseas

To be fair his form would suggest his next contract needs to be his biggest and he ain't gonna get that at Newcastle.

His 3 brothers are here for 1 more year, longer if new contracts offered so I say give him one year, we can do with solid backup and will allow the younger ones in reserves to mature and develop

Buzz Rothfield saying cooper cronk is a 50/50 chance of joining the Sharks next year. If that happens, knights are in the box seat to grab Maloney. I really wish I could fast forward 6 months to see what our team is next year

Monday Bunker: Will Cooper Cronk replace James Maloney at the Sharks?
The Daily Telegraph
COOPER Cronk has been coy about his playing future but Phil “Buzz” Rothfield has revealed the Sharks are seriously eyeing the Storm star.

The revelation comes on the back of chatter that Cronulla five-eighth James Maloney is looking for a top-up on his $600,000 a year contract.

It’s believed the Knights have made a major play for Maloney and could table a deal worth $1 million dollars a season.

The deal hangs on Shane Flanagan’s ability to convince Cooper Cronk to move to the shire.

“If Cronulla can get him [Cronk] Maloney will be released to go to Newcastle, which I think would be great for the game,” Phil Rothfield said on the Monday Bunker.

“I don’t necessarily agree that 18 months into a three-year deal that he now wants out but I can understand the Knights would be offering him a million dollars and he’s on about $600,000 at Cronulla.

“But Shane Flanagan can’t release him until he has a commitment from Cronk.

“I do know Flanno rings his [Cronk’s] manager George Mimis once a week. I would say it is probably 50/50.”

More smoke...

Yeah just journos blowing smoke currently. Wait till after Origin 3 when Cronkite makes his decision, then we'll know. In meantime, please announce Esse, Mohamed and Watson this week. AND West ownership. Club and fans need that extra boost for Broncos game.

Hard to say whether it smoke or not,its quite obvious maloney is fustrated with being drastically under paid.he own doing though,im sure he pressuring flanno ! As we all know if a player is not happy they usually get there early realise eg,sims is a perfect example.final pay day for maloney and wants to cash in.i think its could be on the cards , but he sign on as a halves coach so is that a contradiction to playing on in 2018 for cronk.who knows and all i can say here hoping:wink:

I meant smoke in the sense of where there's smoke there's fire. Toohey has now pretty much corroborated the story.

Things have gone quiet on James Graham lately but I really feel something has to give there.

Graham and Maloney = the kingpins.

Back to holding my breath...

I've really liked what Pete has brought to the team since he's come back here. I think he's been one of our most consistent players all year and always puts in every week. He doesn't have a particularly high ceiling and he's probably already hit his ceiling this year but none-the-less I think he's definitely out performed his pay packet.

It would be a shame to lose him not just from a results perspective but he seems to be a good team man and well liked off the field as well.

All that being said Brown has already drawn a line in the sand about not paying overs for the wrong players and while Pete is a solid contributor week in week out he's not not in the kind of form that should have him on elite player money or anything like that. If he's getting a much bigger offer from the ESL then fair play to him and I wouldn't hold it against him for leaving.

Official Broncos injury update says Herman has a low-grade medial ligament injury and should only miss a couple of weeks.

In the game this days rumours about player movements by coaches and the press acts so subtle, brown the other day admitted that cronk is not likely and that it would still benefit us if he sign on to another club "sharks" and would force a squeeze out eg,maloney. I think at times its obvious to read between the lines.not saying this is the case but it is a win, win, for sharks and cronk going to already premiership team and maloney get his big pay day from the knights.in a nutshell everybody is happy.

I think Pete is at best on par with those players. And I love Pete.

He couldn't lock down a spot at Saints...

Beale is totally worthless one of the worst players in the competition. I'd have any player who's played in our backline this year over him including Jacob Gagan.

I'm wondering if Hodko will keep getting runs.
I'm one of his biggest critics but am always open to be proven wrong.
He had a good game but I don't think he can do it consistently.
If he can and we get Maloney then might be Maloney and Hodko in the halves. I want Lamb to get a real go and I want Pythian to have an opportunity if he can stay fit.
