They were better off financially then Manly when there merger started.

It was only they were dumb enough to allow Arko to have a clause that Manly come back in if the merger folded.

I am sure if my memory is correct if they moved to Central Coast in 2000.

Singo basically would have bankrolled them to play at that stadium up there they basically built it for and kept them afloat as a single entity
Thats a beautiful, romantic, even whimsical story. unfortunately its complete fiction.

Unless of course by "better off financially" you meant under administration with a net debt of $1.6M, unable to pay creditors under administration, and the President of the Leagues Club and Football Clubs Ray Beattie & Bob Saunders appointing an administrator the day after paying themselves a massive redundancy....as better off?

Norths were totally insolvent and had been put in administration before the merger, in fact it was Norths Administrator who recommended that Norths accept the merger as it would allow some of the creditors under administration to be paid.

Hopefully but here’s 16 players good enough for the top 17. We really only need a hooker.

Moses
Drown
Lomax
Hopgood
Paulo
Matterson
Gutherson
Ofahengaue
Lane
Penisini
Sivo
Simonsson
Cartwright
Tuilagi
Iongi (probably)
Williams
Hands is a first grader, just not an 80 minute one. Gutho at 14 resolves that for next year unless we can jag a genuine quality 9. If that happens, I still rate Hands as a better first grader than Simmo, so Gutho moves to centre.

I now live in Terrigal. I can tell you the Central Coast is absolutely screaming for a team, has been for 40 years. They have the catchment, the stadium, the local pathways and talent (in abundance) and just as importantly the local business and serious financial support.
They got burned by Florimo and co taking money on promises for years but if they had a Dolphins like proper start, it would be a hugely supported team.
From a TV broadcasting perspective (aka $$$$'s) there isn't much appeal. A Perth team along with a 2nd NZ team should be the next 2 franchises. The 20th license could then be a team in the NSW/QLD eastern AU timezone. But should be a central QLD team like Avenger has been talking up IMO....

I don’t think it would be enforceable if a child signed a contract with Parramatta either. I’m not criticising the Tigers here, I’m pointing out a potential risk with this contract. I’m sure the Tigers are aware of it, but are their fans?
Most probably signed by parents with perhaps a binding offer (clause in contract or letter) to sign him to top 30 once he turns 18 and able to sign contract.

Moses is a great player.

But he will never win a comp.

I think he can. He does most things as good as Nathan. The difference is Natahns temperament. He always remains calm. The other is timing. Nathan has big moments when it's needed and done this time and again to win games.
Moses needs a coach to help him with that. Gain some patience and remain calm. Don't push things to much.

Looking at games Hands has turned into a good hooker, more than serviceable, but add Wishart there for 2026 and we'd be a much better team.

No more teams for NSW for at least another 50 years other then relocation.

North's were heading there but the stadium was delayed for some reason.
Maybe weather.

Former North Sydney chief executive Bob Saunders said the Bears saw the move to Gosford as a great opportunity to secure their future, but wet weather and construction delays left them without a regular home ground and led to the club's demise after they failed to meet the NRL criteria when the competition was cut to 14 teams, because of their debts of $4 million.

Splitting their home games between four venues, the Bears attracted crowds as low as 3382 at Suncorp Stadium, 4705 at Parramatta Stadium, 5043 at North Sydney Oval and 8032 at the then 110,000-capacity Olympic Stadium, now known as ANZ Stadium.

"It was difficult to get our fans to appreciate all of the different venues that we had to use," Saunders said. "The then North Sydney sponsors stayed on board but getting new sponsors was very difficult when you were in that nomadic situation where you are going from one ground to another ground.
"That didn't help getting new sponsors and getting new season ticket holders, which is probably more important in today's climate than they were then. Memberships 20 years ago was something that everyone dreamed of, but these days that is very important to clubs."

However, former North Sydney president David Hill, who left the board before the club decided to move to Gosford, said the Bears were victims of poor management and politics arising from the Super League war with News Corporation.

"There wasn't any need for North Sydney to go into administration, they were not insolvent," said Hill, who later headed the Save The Bears movement, which attempted to stop the ill-fated merger with Manly to form the Northern Eagles.
"The reason they were not insolvent is because at the time the North Sydney Football Club, which declared itself insolvent, had six of the nine board members of the leagues club, which was awash with money."

So basically if the stadium was ready on-time for start of 1999 my assumption is the Bears would have survived and parked themselves permanently as a single entity on the Coast.

What would have happened with Manly well who the hell knows but its a damn shame they weren't expelled for good.

The madness with all this expansion stuff, is one of the leagues biggest junior nurseries and rugby league heartland, the Illawarra doesn't have a stand alone side. Crazy!
