I agree. We have to atleast reach the game before grand final. If we bow out in week 2 or prior once again it's just another fail.
On paper we have the 3rd best squad in the competition.

Manlys side is solid but has a lot of holes. The Rooster don't have as good a spine or forwards.

Who else is there? Panthers and Storm have better squads. If we lost to them a week out from the grand final in a close match. A coin toss then I'd keep him. If we don't make it that far or get belted a week before the grand final I see no point on continuing into year 10 with BA.

Ciraldo might be far worse. It is a gamble. One id be happy to take.

Let's just see how this season ends up first.

What if we get Storms / Penrith week one and two, beat one, lose to the other, season over?

Yes. It was all set up.

Let's face reality. We had 80mins to score a try and only one we did was off a bomb. I dont even think we had them stretched once in that game.
They are vulnerable to the bomb. It would be poor coaching not to use it.

I'm not sure that it makes a lot sense to make universal statements re what we should do. e.g. if we were unlucky enough to lose 3 of the first choice spine players late in the season and made it to the prelim final, it would be pretty odd (and counterproductive) to fire the coach (unless you have a really clear better option available and keen). You'd be be making a rod for the next coach's back (cue the bones jokes). As ever....it depends.

Depends where each team finish.
Yes but they'll both almost certainly be top 4. And if by some turn of events one of them isn't, then beating that team and then losing to the other team that lost the first week, after missing the top 4 ourselves, won't be much of an achievement.

I agree for the most part. The results of one or two games shouldn't be overly emphasized as they're obviously a lot of factors going into those and other results. What I'm not sure I agree with is that you need a clearly better coaching option.

Well, you at least need an option that has a lot of upside.
I think the whole coaching prowess thing is much more fuzzy than people think. There's very little real objective markers to go on. The next rung down from NRL coach is assistant NRL coach or ESL coach, and they fail more often than not. And the more often a coach fails to deliver the more risk we should take.

And, answer my question.
Where did I say Ciraldo should be our coach?
Honestly Suity, I don’t remember any of your opinions on any given topic. I just know you’re part of the mob here. You’re the kind of person who would say Ciraldo is better than Arthur’s. There’s about half a dozen merkins here who put obvious thought into their opinions and understand there’s no simple answers. Then there’s a critical mass of posters who just put shit on them. I see you doing plenty of putting shit on merkins.

Seems like a measured opinion.

I stand by the fact that no better alternative is available.

Unless Bellamy (wont happen), Cleary (wont happen) or Robinson (wont happen) are available (they're not) then you're not replacing him with someone better.

look at how the "new" coaches are doing across the nrl in recent years - O'Brien, Barrett, Holbrook etc.

Fitzy is doing a good job at cronulla, thus far, but lets judge him/them once we get through the entirety of the regular season - he hasn't faced much adversity at this time.

Would you give Madge a shot? He's probably the most realistic/experienced/successful coach that would be an option. Sure he won a comp, but then managed to lose the dressing room within 12 months. No thanks.
