International should always be the highest form of the game

I think they should be a ban of this talk of 'pinnacle' Gus gould wanking over origin plays

Ive never known such narrow-minded bollocks..Planet Earth>>>>State

I think its a shame that there is so few National Representative opportunities in League and that there is an apparent lack of passion for it. Takes nothing away from Origin though.

The NSW crowd in that last set where the Blues were keeping QLD down in their own 20 sounded pretty good. The cheers got louder as each tackle was made.

That was a great run of play, even for a Queenslander. How they lift themselves like that when they must have been absolutely stuffed.

International football should be the pinnacle. It currently isn't. That's the dilemma the game faces.

It can not become an increasingly recognised game internationally when the ultimate player focus is a game between two states in Autralia. If it ain't fixed, we don't grow.

The issue is whether there is a real desire to grow the game internationally or not. If there is just a preparedness to let it rest on its laurels then so be it. I for one think it's a shame, as it shits on other games.

See I don't think it's a case of one or the other. League is very lucky that it has 3 strong forms of the game - Club, Internationals & Other Rep Games.

The key thing is to build up all 3. Origin is origin. It's been a whitewash of late yet it's setting records.

Build up the passion in the club and other rep games and you've got dynamite.

The issue for me Doc is 'Tamou' like incidents which are in effect a cannibilisation of the strength of the international game to service the over riding strength of SOO. Is this just one of a string of isolated incidents, or the start of a real problem?

It also felt like a pretty liberal policing of the 10 metres by Archer that helped them, but you have to expect that late in any game.

If its not the pinaccle why do the sheep lovers pick a state? SOO is what keeps RL relevant evey year. Without SOO the game would be nothing. Nobody cares about tests and your average RL fan probably can't remember the last test played let alone something that happened in it yet we have Origin moments out of the arse.

6 years on and NSW fans are desperate and sick of QLD dominance. Australia apparently lost a world cup, couldn't care less.

We pick a side because that's what people do when watching sports - it makes it more entertianing and gives you a stake in the game beyond a mere "neutral" observer. It used to be that Kiwis went for Queensland when they were perceived underdogs but I've certainly noticed a swing toward NSW after 6 years of them being underdogs. Loads of NSW cheering at the pub last night.

You say fans couldn't care less about losing a world cup but something tells me the players didn't feel too good about it. They didn't look to happy to me.

until kiwis can step up, and be consistently challenging , ORIGIN will always be the pinnacle

NSW > KIWIS
QLD > KIWIS

NSW > KIWIS
QLD > KIWIS

And yet, in the world cup, KIWIS > NSW + QLD

I know that Australia are the best team in the world. But Origin being the pinnacle has more to do with its own merits, than the lack of competition in international Rugby League. There was a time when NZ was indisputably #1 (tri-nations and world cup winners) and Origin was one-sided, and Origin was still considered to be the pinnacle. I have a feeling that it will always be.

Even if this was true, and it isn't, you do realise that rugby league exists outside of nsw, qld and new zealand right? You have to laugh at all these so called rugby league fans (like the thread starter) who know nothing about the sport outside of their own backyard.

Stupid threads like this are the reason IRL is behind SOO cause there are some league fans who don't support the whole game, only parts of it.

IRL has to be the top level of the game!!!!

So because some of us think Origin results in better games, we don't support Internationals?

I have mates who have no interest in the NRL but still watch State of Origin every year. State of Origin is kind of like the Melbourne Cup and the Sydney to Hobart, you don't need to care about the actual sport to caught up in it.

As for tests, I don't even remember what happened in the last test match, I will watch it, but it doesn't give you those butterflies you get before an Origin match, tests just aren't as exciting for me and I am pretty sure a lot of NRL fans agree.
