So it's looking like a trip to QLD for us this Christmas as my step-bro and his bimbo girlfriend are scared of a cruise ship.

I'm saving for anyway, building up my bank account to make some endeavours and cross items off of my bucket list when I study in the states. I'm there so might as well cross items off.

Recently got back from a big Europe trip .. late honeymoon. First day of the Ashes in Nottingham, a mates wedding in Munich, the Algarve region in Portugal for two weeks and the south of France for two weeks. A few days R&R (like we needed it!) in Singapore on the way home. Awesome time.

Whereabouts in QLD? Spent a week in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast when I was home. Had a great time.

Prob around Gold Coast area as they want the beaches, theme parks and such. No skin off my bones, I just want to go on a bloody holiday.

I've been once before with an ex and her parents, but that's not really doing the place justice. I need to go back cashed up, single, and with bros.

You've got some 'splainin' to do, Mao.

That's my plan (apart from the single bit - this stud is out to pasture, or whatever clumsy horse racing metaphor I can use to say I'm happily in love; I'm not a horse racing guy).

I want to save a few grand and hit Vegas with my bros.

Time to start saving so I can have the money by the time I turn 83.

Off to Korea tomorrow morning!

5am departure, a few hours layer of Qingdao, and then I touch down in Seoul in time to find out if Newcastle won or lost.

A few days in Seoul to include random tourism, eating western food, eating Korean food, paying a visit to Lotte World (a big indoor theme park), and sleeping in.

Busan for a few days of Mexican on the beach, catching up with the sole old friend who still lives there, eating ddeok galbi, and visiting the world's largest fish market (again).

Gwangju to see my old stomping grounds, make kimchi, participate in a Scavenger Hunt, and cry in my beer if we've made the grand final - as I'll miss it.

Hope you've enjoyed Korea Mis.

I'm currently sitting on Christmas Island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. One of the more interesting yet rarely visited places in the world I'd say. A little taste of the Chinese / Malay food makes me feel like I'm somewhere a little more exotic than I actually am.

Sounds pretty magnificent, mate.

Korea was a lot of fun when I wasn't arguing with my ex. Caught up with some old friends, ate delicious food, and attended both the Jinju Lantern Festival and the Gwangju Kimchi Festival.

A few guys I went to high school with have been in Europe for 6 months and some of them are now going to Canada for 6 months to a year. I know they're working in Canada, but I need to find out what they were doing in Europe because I doubt their savings were that great. I know one or two of them had their Bartender license.

I know someone who went over with 10 grand and lasted him 3 months
He said he did a few odd days here and there of fruit picking and that sorta shit. Stayed at hostels/backpacker places whenever possible. England was the most expensive (as you'd assume anyway)
Bartending is always an option if you plan on sticking around for a little while I guess.

Ah how I'd love to just get up and jump on a plane to do this!

Any of you merkins backpacked in Europe? What kind of budget should I have lined up?

It cost me 13 grand for 5 weeks in England, including all travel costs.

But I stayed in ok hotels, no hostels, and over-indulged on souvenirs, food and strippers. And of course bought tickets to World Cup games, shows, museums, castles and all the touristy stuff I could.

And in saying that, it was a great 5 weeks. Anyone who is into hiking should check out Kilkenny and Snowdonia. I really wish I spent more than a week in Ireland, a beautiful country. Apart from the rain and general grey drabness, England and Wales were awesome. I loved London, Cardiff, Liverpool and York. Manchester was a bit dull.

Most estimates are in the $10,000+ bracket. I'm unlikely to have that by then.

Might just take my savings and relocate to Thailand to focus on my writing and drinking. Got a few blogger friends who basically live off their website income there and I'll finally be in a position to do the same.

I can do Europe with maybe 6 grand for 3 months.

But I've done my extravagant euro trip.

That's more within my budgetary range. I'm so torn. Stay here and do very little work? Travel around Europe and utterly bankrupt myself? Move to Thailand and just write?

It's a tough f**king life, I'll tell ya.
