Time for Moylan to 5/8

The ball for Dallins second try was perfect, he really is just playing as a half in attack now, its working for us a lot of the time though I'll never understand the point of it. Bryce had a quiet game but he had one really good hit which was good to see.

Agree with all of you guys - the one missing piece now is someone with serious acceleration over 40 metres who can make line breaks running off someone's hip or from an offload.

I suspect Blake is the fastest over 100 metres in our team, but doesn't have that acceleration over 40 metres.

That said, from what little I've seen of TMM, he seemed to have some pretty serious acceleration (like Benji in his early days). Perhaps he will help in this area for us.

Yeah i think Peach would be at top speed after about 20m. His footwork and changes of direction are Milford like. I reckon he could end up in that bench utility/hooker role next year.

Found an interesting stat on nrl.com about Moylan. He is second in try saves this year across the league. He misses most of those 50/50 expect an Inglis miracle try savers but is constantly plugging holes on our own line. Maybe there's a lot in that space that Griffin doesn't want to unsettle right now. Our defensive line is fragile enough, our attack is starting to purr and Moylan is in good form. It's working right now.

I was never in the Moylan to #6 camp but am now convinced it is the way to go. He did a great job against the knights. Bryce was getting plenty of attention in defence and attack so he reverted to more typical forward play, opening up space for Moylan.

I also noted that he was doing a lot of the kicking!! maybe something he has been working on before the transition to the halves is finalised.

I think a full off season training at five eighth focusing on defence and kicking could see the transfer happen.

If he does partner Cleary I hope they play traditional first receiver and second receiver and none of this left side, right side rubbish that is in vogue.

With guys like Cartwright, Late and Peachey surely they are big enough threats that we don't need a half either side of the ruck.

Our attacking sets look very good when Cleary and Moylan combine, we have scored a couple real nice tries off deep backline moves through them now down the left side the last two weeks.

Yeah it's great to see these plays come back into our game. The structure we had off the scrum for Dallin's second try was outstanding also. Obviously it takes an equally outstanding pass which Moylan delivered but we have the guys who can do that.

True, he certainly has blistering acceleration over 40 m and great foot work, but I think he tops out pretty quickly and would get run down over 100 m

Scored a length of the field try against the Titans on the Gold Coast a couple of season's back with some pretty quick Titans back's in hot pursuit to no avail.

Peachy has as much talent as any player in our team. I think his talent is being wasted to a certain degree, being played in some pseudo 2nd row come what lately position. I personally think he needs to be at centre or dummy half. No in-betweens.

Do you think he has the passing game to be a dummy half? He has the running game, but he seems to like to hold onto the ball.

I agree he is a very talented footballer and an invaluable member of our team but dummy half I think not. Will discuss it with you further in person on Friday night, if your sober enough to have a reasonable conversation with. (Or if I'm sober)

Given that Moylan more or less played 5/8 in attack fulltime on Sunday, I guess it doesn't really matter what number he wears on his back.

Still think Cartwright in second row, JFH onto the bench and Hardacker shot into the sun (just joking, I've barely seen him) is a much better balanced side.

His kick returns are not an issue.

Statistically he is not the best in the NRL and yes he probably get monstered but at the end of the day most of the fullbacks do!!!

I just don't get the whole Matty Moylan can't bring he ball back issue. It irk's me big time.

Who can, unless they have time and space, on the back of a poor kick.

Yeah his kick returns don't worry me, we don't get pinned in our own twenty very often so it's hardly an issue. In fact our problem for most of the year has been failing to convert all the good field position we have into points, not that we are losing field position battles.

It's the stats , they don't lie.

Moylan's kick return meters in 15 games for panthers - 390

Let's compare to some other FB's

Michael Gordon - 1006 in 20 games

Zillman - 528 in 9 games

Hopoate - 1089 in 18 games

Coote - 689 in 20 games

Wighton - 854 in 20 games

None of these guys are superstar fullbacks & they all put Moylan in the shade for kick return meters , and we haven't even touched on tackle breaks & line breaks.

Sorry to say but the "who can" argument doesn't pass the test.

Reminds me of Flash when he first moved to fullback. He's way past it now. But back in 2010 and 2011 he regularly had 20 metre kick returns. Usually bouncing out of the first tackle making another 10 metres.

His best kick return he just smashed through a few Broncos players and made 30 or 40 metres before offloading to Brad Tighe for a try.

Even after injuries and getting on in age he's still solid at kick returns.
