Trindall

Looked for a thread on him but nothing current enough to continue.

I think Fitz had the thought to keep him at the club as the natural successor to MM whilst being a capable replacement for injury this year.

With NH absolutely killing it at 7 and BT having a less than impressive trial and match last week what do we think.

Is this a concern for Fitz in 2023?

For the very short-sighted, Trindall's form in a trial and the last 13 minutes of Fridays game is a concern. I don't think Fitz is short sighted.

Trindall is 22 years old. Hynes is 26 and coming into his prime. Trindall will take time. He has a good tool kit but needs maturity and mental strength.

We need to manage expectations and show patience. He has time to grow into a starting role.

I'm just going to have to trust Fitz with this guy , i just don't see it in him , whether it's confidence or something else and just needs minutes to improve i don't know , i would much rather it was Metcalfe we had kept , i can see upside in him . I will leave it to the Fitz magic to go to work on Trindall .

I put a line through him last year, just don’t see his playing style making it at top level

He played a fair bit of 7 last year and with Nicho coming in, is now back to second fiddle.
Put yourself in his shoes, you sit out and watch the team & your replacement do mostly well for a few rounds, get 15 minutes to have a crack so you're more tempted to roll the dice and go for the big plays, make a name for yourself.

At the moment I think he's a serviceable 7 - not super flashy but overall a good kicking game and would do a job.

Lots of mining before you see a jewel imo. He has the skills I guess but I just don't see anything that spectacular to warrant spending too much time on him into the future. My timeline would be this season to show enough to become a regular 14 at the least.
My greatest concern with him has been is his defence on the fringes of the ruck and edges when he's pushed wide in D. He's got some work to do thats for sure.

About even so far.

I will say I don’t see it in him as of right now but I thought that about Kennedy too.

Up to BT now.

For mine, as above, it is a each way bet. I reckon he is more than serviceable. A organiser and better defensive half than MM. Yet Mm and Nacho are doing well. He is a work in progress and a more than capable half, when, we will have to use him.
The other side of the coin is what may happen nek year. Does MM, at this form get another 2 years? Or do we stick with BT and say thank you to MM.
Say we sign a organising half like Brooks or throw it all at a younger MM..Ponga.
If BT is a work in progress and we keep him and move MM on, then Fitz has a lot of room in the cap to buy a centre/prop/ back rower.

It’s seems kinda clear as to why Fitz choose the Sharks. The ducks line up in terms of the cap in the next few years. The dominos may indeed fall this year not last.
Wade.
Burrito.
Moylan.
That’s 2 million right there with a team on the up.

f**king genius.

If Brooks is capable of doing well anywhere, it could be here.

I'm not really a fan but he's never been in a good team and I could see him working reasonsbly well here. Still, If he's the calibre of player we are trying to attract then I'd like to get a better look at Trindall. probably worth trying to develop Trindall and using any spare cap somewhere else.

Why do people keep bringing up half’s to sign??
We have our half for the next 3+ years sorted.
5/8 is what we need for 2023 not a half.

Because I prefer two halback style halves- if I can put it that way. Also, Nicho feels a bit five-eighty. I don't spose it really matters though. Which 5/8 do you suggest?

He’s had a less than happy start to the year but I think he’s worth persisting with.

We’ve also got Ryan Rivett on the books, and I know it’s early days but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Moylan offered one more year.

I think it’s far from panic stations just yet.

I like Trindall and what he potentially brings to the table. He had a couple of dusty trials and 15 minutes where he panicked a bit. Some of you guys are quick to get the knives out as you were with WK. I've said it before and I believe Tricky will ultimately be a top-line long term half just as I thought WK would make it at fullback. Be patient...if anyone can make it work Fitz will.

Wasn't there talk of us signing Brooks at one stage last year? I might be wrong but for some reason I remember a chat on it. On the radio yesterday (ABC) They were saying that Brooks needs out of Tigers asap, for the Tigs benefit as well as his own. I reckon he'd be a handy depth signing and a notch above Trindall at this point in their careers.

Obviously I'd prefer Trindall to kick on and hope he does but the Brooks thing seems realistic in the near future and needs to be at least looked at.

I’m confident Fitzy will be able to evaluate him enough this year to see if he is going to work out for us.

If they can find someone else as an improved option they won’t hesitate pulling the trigger either.

We will have money to spend this year with Graham and Fifita finishing up.

Also if Moylan keeps his body together and that is a big IF the Club might decide to give him another year.

Lots of possible moving pieces for Hynes halves partner.

Would prefer metcalf on the bench

He’s off to the Warriors next year so the Club might prefer to use other players before him.

But if his form is at a point where the Club need to have him in the 17 for a Premiership campaign I’m sure Fitzy will pull the trigger.

Metcalfe smashed it for the jets yesterday , looks a class above that level and has way more upside than Trindall IMO , if we wanted to keep him i'm sure he could get out of his Warriors contract by saying he's not comfortable moving to NZ and his family don't want him to go . He has looked way more comfortable in FG than Trindall has from what i have seen , Trindall would be much better going and getting more minutes on the park with jets .
Some have said he was just trying too hard the other night but one mistake was a poor pass , his bread and butter , and the other was a dropped ball in contact , simple mistakes , i simply haven't seen enough from him in the chances he's had .
One looks a natural footballer .
