WA BEARS

In an ideal world, expansion into states like this should be NRL funded, with a view to selling it off once established
I'm not against that idea, it means that there's some control from head office that can put steady heads in the right positions, not just rely on what's available in that local area or whoever the bidders come up with (ala cumins zero effort)
Especially in areas like SA, WA, NZ2 where the code would not be looked upon as no.1, was Melbourne Storm a similar set up?

Yes but as the head of that consortium Cumins had one job, and he fluffed it. If this was the Bears, people would be tearing strips off of them, yourself included, actually some people are blaming the Bears and they weren’t even a part of this mess.
I blame the bears, if we’d known there was a curse we would have rethunk it :)

Pvl knows he can get the money from the wa govt just like he did out of the federal govt for the png bid

The same people here who are questioning him doing it are the first to praise afl when they get govt money to help their expansion teams

The Greek accountant is doing his job. Its why clubs are allowing for expansion to happen and it’s better the money comes from the bidders rather than the arl profits

I mean, if clubs are such a licence to print money, as is being claimed by many why don't the NRL own and fund all expansion for the next Decade?

Wouldn't that be a good investment strategy?

Reality is Perth is offering no more than another city like Adelaide, Wellington or another Melbourne side, there's is zero upside for the clubs to vote them in
Don't let your opinions of Perth Red cloud your judgment, the above is nonsense, there is clear upside for a Perth side in the NRL, the broadcasters and PVL know it.

It's very obvious that the NRL is expanding to Perth. What is just happening now is PVL is looking to get more from the West Australia government. Ironically if you substitute ' WA Government' for 'TV broadcaster' and if PVL accepted the first bid and less than he believed he could squeeze out of the 'TV broadcaster', Perth Red would be the first to complain so hypocrisy has been entertaining this past week.

Sorry but you are not thinking like an nrl club CEO, they are the voters, and they don't care about more from wa govt, they care about thier slice of existing broadcast pie and the efforts to keep that as big as possible, at minimal efforts, PR is blindsided by having a WA team, especially one run by matey mates cash tycoon, but I'm saying there is no upside for the clubs to vote in WA over another bidder in whoever like Ipswich, easts T, nz2, etc, hell png is offering way more and they are an extra year away from being ready, that will give them the 9th game revenue, WA isready to grant upgrades on its own infrastructure, great! what's in it for the away clubs?
Nothing Infact it's "Zero"
I'm glad you think like the arlc people and have a broader view, but to get these across the line, you need to think like the stakeholders that actually vote in this game, Arlc create the directions but they only drive where the clubs ceos agree to
They are NRL, it's a syndicate, one that believes in backscratching, and Perth isn't catering for them at all, infact they are so worried about their own finances before they've been granted a licence, thet forgot they need to buy a passport to gain entry into the NRL

I'd prefer the NRL ask that any new bid team give a surety or even better a legally binding commitment to fund there local League body.

For example any WA bid has to commit $20M to the NRLWA.

Recent reports suggest the Govt funding runs out in 10 years for PNG.

That's got to be a huge issue for all clubs

Spot on.

He's repeatedly said that the WA Premier Roger Cook is blowing up his phone and even joked about taking out an AVO on him. He's never once mentioned Cumins so to get a bid of $0 and then publicly state he's not going to deal with the consortium but will be with the government he must know there's gold in them thar hills.

So I suppose at the end of the 2030s they just pack-up the PNG team & replace them with (I guess) the financial slam-dunk of another Brisbane team?

Why? By then they might have a steady revenue stream and not be a burden, there's heaps of clubs that already are a burden, at least this one comes with the 290mill funding towards the actual club

Why not all of the above, the clubs want compensation for letting another club in the hen house
