In an ideal world, expansion into states like this should be NRL funded, with a view to selling it off once established

I'm not against that idea, it means that there's some control from head office that can put steady heads in the right positions, not just rely on what's available in that local area or whoever the bidders come up with (ala cumins zero effort)
Especially in areas like SA, WA, NZ2 where the code would not be looked upon as no.1, was Melbourne Storm a similar set up?

The same people here who are questioning him doing it are the first to praise afl when they get govt money to help their expansion teams

It's very obvious that the NRL is expanding to Perth. What is just happening now is PVL is looking to get more from the West Australia government. Ironically if you substitute ' WA Government' for 'TV broadcaster' and if PVL accepted the first bid and less than he believed he could squeeze out of the 'TV broadcaster', Perth Red would be the first to complain so hypocrisy has been entertaining this past week.

Sorry but you are not thinking like an nrl club CEO, they are the voters, and they don't care about more from wa govt, they care about thier slice of existing broadcast pie and the efforts to keep that as big as possible, at minimal efforts, PR is blindsided by having a WA team, especially one run by matey mates cash tycoon, but I'm saying there is no upside for the clubs to vote in WA over another bidder in whoever like Ipswich, easts T, nz2, etc, hell png is offering way more and they are an extra year away from being ready, that will give them the 9th game revenue, WA isready to grant upgrades on its own infrastructure, great! what's in it for the away clubs?

I'm glad you think like the arlc people and have a broader view, but to get these across the line, you need to think like the stakeholders that actually vote in this game, Arlc create the directions but they only drive where the clubs ceos agree to
They are NRL, it's a syndicate, one that believes in backscratching, and Perth isn't catering for them at all, infact they are so worried about their own finances before they've been granted a licence, thet forgot they need to buy a passport to gain entry into the NRL

For example any WA bid has to commit $20M to the NRLWA.

Spot on.

He's repeatedly said that the WA Premier Roger Cook is blowing up his phone and even joked about taking out an AVO on him. He's never once mentioned Cumins so to get a bid of $0 and then publicly state he's not going to deal with the consortium but will be with the government he must know there's gold in them thar hills.

Why? By then they might have a steady revenue stream and not be a burden, there's heaps of clubs that already are a burden, at least this one comes with the 290mill funding towards the actual club
