I’ve said my piece on this subject. The first question on every recruiters lips is
“Can they defend”.
I know this, because I’ve spoken to many over the last few years, from a huge range of clubs.
That’s all I was saying. I even pointed out that it’s definitely not all they look at, but it’s definitely the most important thing, because it demonstrates a players ability to read the game in both defence and attack.
You called bullshit on that and then went on huge long winded rant which was pointless. Like you had an idea.
You get so caught up on your own crap that you forget what was even being discussed.
The fact you think defence is harder to teach than x factor or genuine attacking ability (whatever you want to call it) shows you have no idea..
Franklin made some great points the other day...
None of which you answered and just told people they are wrong again...
Why did we sign alamoti?? Pretty poor defender? Had some absolute shockers this year in defence...
Ivan is defence first as all coaches are... (no suprises there..lol)
Ivan signed him cause the kid has a touch of class about him with the ball in hand, skills that you cant teach, strength, freaky offloads tackling busting etc..... defence needs a heap of work but he can teach that and learn that here.
Yes its important kids can defend... its a very good trait to have as a young player...
Plenty of kids get scouted for defence but the players like carty and your walshs and pongas and masada iosefas and latrells etc dont get sighted for their defence. Whether they can defend or not as kids would not have stopped their respective junior clubs taking a chance on them.
As i mentioned in a previous post, some people are looking just at nrl for examples... if your talking about the recruitmeng of kids than have a look at all the talented kids that dont make it cause they cant get their defence or fitness up to standard... looking at just nrl examples only accounts for the players that make it.... the vast majority dont
