a media analyst recommending a team in PNG lol who pays this clown?

And if this is the article he keeps referring to, he doesn't even do that.

Forrest is a rugby union man and owns the now-defunct former Super Rugby team, the Western Force, as well as underwriting a proposed Global Rapid Rugby competition involving teams from Japan, Fiji, Hong Kong and Samoa.

Significantly, Papua New Guinea is not part of his football plans but the country is a mecca for miners, leading Colin Smith, director of Global Media and Sports, to say, "There is actually a good argument for Twiggy to fund a NRL team, not in Perth but Port Moresby. Rugby league is the only sport of substance in PNG and would have massive appeal. The PNG Hunters won the 2017 Queensland Cup."

So a Rugby Union fan funding the team because there are mining companies there seems to be the entire analysis for PNG.

What makes your one and only brain cell think the media will make money from a Perth-based NRL team?

Perth won't be able to host a game on Thursday and Friday. The one timeslot it's apparently good for is limited to PTV. That makes it worthless to FTA.

If it comes down to the bid that provides the most benefit to the Australian broadcasters then there's only one option. Brisbane 3. NZ2 is good for the NZ broadcasters.
The Eagles and Dockers play home games on Thu and Friday nights, what makes the NRL so special?

PNG may increase the player pool, give RL some more international competition but media revenue is the last thing it offers.
I wouldn't count on PNG having a huge affect on the playing pool. The average height of a male in PNG is 5 foot 4 inches, they may love the game but what percentage of the population is suitable to develop?

When you consider NRL is the ONLY professional sport in Australia not to have a team in Perth it does make us look very small.

who's they? the voices in your head

Head of Strategy WWOS Simon Fordham:

“We’re really committed to working with the NRL in growing the competition, and Queensland is a big part of that. We think there’s room for another team here in Queensland, and the Dolphins have been the perfect example."

Wasn't this the same group telling us how valuable a second Brisbane club would be?

Brisbane2 Ch9 value $0

Brisbane 3 Ch9 worth loads of money.

yeh makes total sense!

Every other sport can manage it but his little brain can't get around it. I've never come across such a small minded fool.

I know you're a simpleton, but surely you should be able to understand that the operating costs of an NRL club are significantly higher than of a team in the NBL, A-League, WNBL, A-League W and ABL.

In 2020 it cost about $24m to operate an NRL club. Those costs have increased. A Perth-based team will require about $30-40m to be a force like the Storm.

The Adelaide 36ers spent $2.96m in 2022-23. They were the highest spending NBL team. The lowest spending team was the Cairns Taipans at $1.65m.

You're a special kind of stupid to not understand why markets like Adelaide and Perth can produce a business model that generates $3m to fund an NBL team but struggle to find the resources to field one in the NRL.

Brisbane 3 will be lucky to be team 20. We're finally looking at real expansion in Perth, PNG and NZ.

I know you're a simpleton but the NRL and its clubs generate far more money than the NBL, A League, WNBL, ALW and its clubs. There is a reason its operating costs are so much more.

The Melbourne Storm spent more than they generated for 15-20 years you dumbarse.

The Storm has been overspending to the tune of between $2 million and $5 million for 15 years. This shortfall has been financed by News Ltd and the amount spent by the club does not seem to be falling since the salary cap scandal in 2010.

The Storm football club spends about $20 million a year, or about $2-$4 million more than most other clubs except for the wealthy Broncos. The new consortium of owners, led by New Zealander Bart Campbell, are projecting the club will break even in five years, which is a long time to be losing money. The Storm has risen to the top of the competition by overspending; if the club has to curtail its expenses it is very difficult to see the performance on the field continuing, placing greater financial stress on the group.

Money isn't the problem with Perth. No sane person thinks it wouldnt be profitable .
Western Reds weren't profitable.

West Coast Eagles went bust in the late 1980s.

Perth Wildcats were struggling financially at one stage.

Perth Glory and Western Force have also encountered financial hardship.

It's a myth to think a Perth-based NRL club is going to be loaded with money.

So we must expand in Brisbane because the AFL is taking over.

But we mustn't expand to anywhere there is an AFL team?

Is this just one big troll?

He's obsessed with the AFL. And Perth for some reason. Maybe jealous of either or both
