What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

Disapointing, he'd made it just silly mistakes derailed he's career and a tad of cockiness. All he had to do last year was make no mistakes and make a couple good runs and he would've played out the season and been a certain starter for this year.

So where do people stand? Did Hayne succeed in the NFL or did he fail?

Interesting question..

He obviously went over there and 99% of people thought he had next to no chance of making it in any capacity.

So for him to do so well in pre-season then make the roster was an incredible achievement. He became what he set out to be an 'NFL' player.

In saying that though because he didn't live up to the early hype he created for himself (through his performances) and with the rumours being he was going to be cut this season I think the whole experience has left everyone feeling a bit flat, including himself probably.

If it had of been the other way around i.e. in the first season he didn't make the roster but stuck it out another year and then made the squad, even if only playing a couple of games, it would of felt like more of an accomplishment.

The way it worked out its almost made his early form look like a bit of a fluke and now he is giving it up when it appears his first stumbling block has approached.

All in all though he went to American and played in the NFL, so he has to be seen as a great success and tremendous achievement.

As others have said the Rugby 7s things sounds like a good stop-gap solution for him for the rest of the year before he comes back to League.

THE former chief of Australia’s own anti-doping authority has poured cold water on Jarryd Hayne’s new dream of playing Rugby 7s for Fiji at the Rio Olympics.
Former ASADA boss Richard Ings responded to news Hayne had quit the NFL to join the Fiji camp as early as this week ahead of the London Sevens by questioning his eligibility to even play.
Ings stated Hayne would be unlikely to play any professional sport, including rugby sevens, for at least six months pending time spent in a registered drug-testing pool.

The NFL does not comply with the world anti-doping agency’s code, meaning any player looking to switch from American football must first undergo intense drug screening before being deemed able to play professional sport elsewhere.
Ings said this morning he expected World Rugby Sevens to step in and veto Hayne’s Rio bid.
“The six-month return to competition rule is standard across most sports for athletes returning to international competition. And necessary,” Ings said on Twitter.
“If Jarryd Hayne had been playing in WADA-compliant sport he would have grounds to reduce the 6 months.
“But NFL is (performance enhancing drugs) badlands. No chance.”

Ings first made headlines as a 22-year-old tennis umpire who took on John McEnroe.

He was ASADA’s inaugural chief executive and chairman following its creation in 2006 to replace the Australian Sports Drug Agency.
But the federal government replaced Ings in 2010 amidst talk of mistrust and in-fighting within ASADA ranks.

It must be devastating to Hayne that his explanation didn't live up to your lofty expectations.

Good on him. Overachieved compared to what he should have in a league like the NFL with one off-season. Even if he was tapped on the shoulder by the 49ers the rugby 7s for Fiji is a good fit and winning a medal would be huge, and league and union clubs will be lining up to lock him down for next season

How exactly did he over achieve?

The highlights of his NFL career were his pre-season games (probably against much lesser opposition than what he was confronted with during regular season games), I understand you're a Parramatta fan and you want to rally behind your hero at all costs necessary but based on what he did during the regular season, he was never more than a 2nd/3rd stringer and for someone who was probably the best player in the game when he left the NRL, I would suggest he didn't live up to the expectations

It's not just my lofty expectations, you watch what he did in the pre-season then compare to what he did in the regular season, he didn't live up to it, hence the reason he's playing Rugby 7's, this whole "it's my dream" is just a poor excuse for others to believe he wasn't about to get the tap on the shoulder

Pretty sure if Hayne plays 7's for Fiji then he'd be ineligible for the Wallabies so the ARU wouldn't be after him. Although there's some eligibility loophole that was exploited through Olympic qualifying that allowed Tim Nanai-Williams to play for Samoa at last years RWC after having already played 7's for NZ. Don't think it'll apply to Hayne because there won't any 7's Olympic qualifying until 2019

He couldn't really win with his many armchair critics. If he stuck around on the fringe of an NFL side another year they would be saying 'just give up already'.

He's surly a little disappointed with the overall result given where he got to so quickly but making the active roster and 8 games ain't bad at all

Wow, well this came out of nowhere... I mean, I hope that means he'll be Roosters bound after Rio, and if so that's awesome (he ain't going to Parra now no matter what), but at the same time it kinda feels like a bit of an anti-climax for him to just quit after one year when he played all of 90 seconds. I kinda thought he'd want to prove more to be honest...

Hopefully if he does come back to the NRL he goes to a decent club like the Sydney Roosters, just to see the butthurt from the Eels, the club that were still shit while cheating for 5 years.

He is certainly not shy with it but he can't control the media hype. Making an active roster and playing 8 games is decent, certainly nothing mind-blowing and he'd be a bit disappointed. I'd say it's a good achievement with one off season in such an intensely competitive NFL system. The pre-season performances were against nuffy defensive sides which plenty identified at the time, despite the media going crazy.

I'm an Eels fan and wish him well but he won't be back at our club and don't really care that much what success he has elsewhere. It's just strange how people think he owes them a good explanation for what he does with his career

I don't know why Parra would even want him back, they done nothing the whole time he was there except a GF appearance from 8th spot.

I don't think he did too badly in the NFL. Leaving this way isn't a bad thing for our sport though as I doubt NFL teams will be falling over themselves to give any other NRL players a go if supposedly the best player here was average at best.

The whole dream thing's getting a bit naff though. Presumably straight after the Olympics he'll have another dream and try out for Man Utd?

Some US Journalist just labelled him "Most over-hyped non contributor in a long time". Didn't realise they got to watch old Parra games over there.

Haha that asada stuff seems fairly emphatic. Might see him at the Roosters in the next month a little embarrassed

I think the biggest travesty in all this is just how betrayed Hayne must feel by Jesus Christ and the Almighty. He was so sure they had his back.
