What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

Good on him. Feeling a bit of Aussie pride right now.

Tipping some hollywood studio will lock up a movie deal soon just in case he goes all the way in his first season.

Geez, some of the self claimed NFL experts have a teeny weeny bit of egg on their faces......

A huge lol at them, they all said there was no way a mere mortal like hayne could make the cut against the god-like American athletes who have played this game their whole lives. The experts claim he hasn't only played second and third stringers so far, but considering he has played a total of 4 games of am-football in his life and that he has already proven himself against those lower tier guys who have played many seasons of high school, college and nfl and he has already dominated at the level is an amazing acomplishmant

There is a lot of posters on this site that wouldn't know their nose from their arsehole about NRL matters, let alone the NFL.

But well done to Hayne.
A truly inspirational story.

If the NRL and the NFL play their cards right, this could very quickly turn into a watershed moment for both sports in both countries. If Hayne is a success against the first choice players, there is a cross promotion goldmine just waiting to explode here.

There's an opportunity for the NFL to see the NRL as a feeder league. It won't be good for the NRL. Taupau has said he dreams of going there. George Burgess too.

Imagine our up and coming players with exceptional speed and strength. The NFL takes the same skills without needing the same aerobic capacity. If you have enough raw talent you're looking at making more money in an easier game (from an athletic POV). The NRL will risk losing a lot of talent.

That is one point BM.

But what if more kids play RL if they see a potential pathway to the NFL.
What if RL now picks up more American fans, casual or otherwise.

This can only be a good thing for the NRL.
The amount of NRL players chancing their arm and making the cut with the NFL will be negligible.

But even if that were the case. Not all are going to make it and plenty would come back to the NRL. Who knows the NRL may be able to set something up to grab some american NFL players who aren't making a team and see this as a pathway to a career

All great points, but the biggest prize shouldn't be ignored: A brand new burgeoning market for Rugby League. America is big enough where they have plenty of people to support another code, the only challenge was getting the word out effectively.

No longer. As soon as Hayne starts lighting up the NFL comp, kids who are inspired by him begin to research his origins, which would obviously lead them to Youtube and the official NRL website. From there, it's a rabbit hole.

Yep, I could certainly see some failed wide receivers coming out and having a crack on the wing. We've seen what the Fijian imports can do with barely any league experience so they'd be equally if not more successful IMO.

The arena football league could lose a few players if their players realise they could earn 2-3 times the salary playing NRL

I couldn't even see a situation where one RL player a year made the NFL...

On the flip side, if a handful make it then it could give NRL some much needed exposure in the U.S...

Who knows, maybe a few might that miss the cut over there might even consider giving the NRL a go?

At least they have now heard of it...

No matter what you might think of Hayne as a man, he has cracked this thing wide open for Rugby League, he's delivered to them the egg of a golden goose, now hatch the mother f**ker so we can make the AFL squirm.

They would absolutely loath the idea of the NRL getting international exposure over this.

Why couldn't a league player per year make it? They don't all have to have the meteoric rise Hayne has.

I could very well see college scouts watching video of U20s matches and then offering scholarships to potential players. They could then spend a year or more learning and playing in that league and entering the draft.

Lattrel Mitchell would be someone who could definitely transition. Huge, strong, fast, agile, and can't tackle worth a damn

If the NFL truly wanted to plumb the depths of talent in Oz and NZ they would no doubt unearth a player per year after a few years of getting the systems in place.

A Christian nation...are they really?......got heaps of guns..........him, not himself....sorry to be so pedantic.

I knew someone would get that,.

More than 70% of Americans identify as Christian. It's in their Pledge of Allegiance! "One nation under God..."

There is potential for positives. But I fear the positives are outweighed by the risk that the most exciting talents who have the most appeal will be lured to the NFL.

Not every NRL player has the desire to play American Rules like Hayne does. It is an absurdly difficult task, even if the payday is worth it. The only players that will ever consider it are the SBWs and perhaps the Shecks and Taumalolos of the world.
