What Movies Have You Seen III

Lol. I thought it was pretty good.

I watched it back-to-back with Fargo. Maybe my expectations were too high.

I liked the interaction with the sheriff. The redemption? of the violent deputy. The angst of the mother and clash with her son.

The pacing was weird, the direction seemed choppy. It felt like they drew it to some sort of end at least twice and then just said f**k it and stopped anyway. I had no idea why the sheriff's wife slipped in and out of aussie accents / other weird accents and whether that was just when she was going into porno mode. Delinkage just phoned this one in.

At first I thought they were deliberately being one-dimensional characters, that they were being caricatures. Out of nowhere there is a better scene, then back to veneer people and dialogue again. So I figured it's just shite and they couldn't be bothered re-shooting scenes or something. Maybe I just missed the point.

Cargo. Netflix zombie/plague survival film. Slightly different take set in Aussie outback.

Not bad but nothing not seen before so probably save your time and watch something else.

Coen Brothers: The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
5 or 6 excellent frontier/western stories with the Coen brothers comedy. Enjoyed each story.

I watched a while back on the plane and remember really liking it. I’m a bit of a sucker for anything with Woody Harrelson though.

Definitely agree with the weird casting of Harrelson’s wife. Just out of place and jolting.

Dormand and Rockwell are always good.

I liked the story of how such a tragedy happened just after an argument, the story about the broken family and the deputy’s redemption.

I thought the Sherrif’s understanding and patience was unexpected as well.

I thought it was a fitting ending too. I’d give it 4/5.

For sure. Frances Dormand was the reason I was interested in this. She was great and so was Rockwell - the only other film I remember him from is the Green Mile.

Couple more on a plane.

Leave No Trace. Survivalist Dad and Daughter in NW USA. OK but bit meandering with no real direction. 6/10

The Nun. I was expecting trash but not that bad. As a movie 1/10, as a silly horror film 2.5/10

Fast and furious 8. Pretty much what I expected. Had some ok scenes and the end went bat-shit crazy, worth 1 view. 5.5/10

The greatest showman. Not as good as I hoped for. Some enjoyable songs and dancing but the story was forgettable. 5/10

The shape of water. Expected something special considering this won best pic Oscar but found it pretty boring and just weird. I knew the gist of the story but it still felt wrong. 5.5/10

Lala land. Didn’t grab me at first but when the story kicked in I really liked it. Didn’t expect the ending and the songs weren’t that catchy for me, but still liked it mostly. 7.5/10

12 strong. About the initial soldiers sent to Afghan after 9/11. Not as good as I had hoped, not very good at all. Some ok action but not much in the way of emotion or character building. 5/10

A quiet place. High expectations lived up to. Very edge of your seat, a chilling opening and felt every sound made by the characters. 9/10
