Pre-season trials: The NRL is losing money

This has been touched on before, but why do we have our clubs playing in February, not televised, not sponsored, when only a month later networks will pay these same clubs hundreds of millions of dollars to play? IF we are going to have trials why not formalise them in a competition structure...

    NRLW?

It was rhetorical, I don't believe the AFL are serious about it as a professional competition beyond what 'optics' it may generate for them. The player pool is not where it needs to be for it to be a credible professional competition and by the AFL's own admission it was fast-tracked by at least...

    NRLW?

did they? aren't these women's afl teams smaller than regulation AFL & littered with female athletes from other sports who have never even played the game before? seems like tokenism to me, starting up a 'professional' competition without actually having the player pool first. I would have...

    Offsiders

Skipped through it, not one mention of the Nines, covered every other event, sevens, a-league, athletics, w-league. Showed a 10sec clip of greenberg saying the NRL wouldn't rush a women's comp. No segway into the jillaroos playing the ferns at the nines, just left the impression the NRL are...

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

what does that have to do with what I said?

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

Not to mention he was also recently in 'rehab', hardly an automatic registration as a "fit and proper person".

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

Has Barba ever fulfilled a contract? Bulldogs > release to Broncos Broncos > release to Sharks Sharks > sacked/released Hard to imagine he will stick out 2.5 years in a foreign country playing a foreign code.

they called it a release? either way it makes no difference to the judiciary example, if you are suspended you don't get to play until you have served it in the NRL, if you aren't contracted you can't serve a suspension since you wouldn't be playing anyway.

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

It's not any different to a judiciary suspension, if he king hit someone on the field danny williams style and then asks & is granted a release from his club, any future club would be aware that should they sign him he wont be allowed to play until he has served his suspension. Should he instead...

didn't stop cronulla wanting to re-sign him.

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

Why not? if hes not employed by the NRL how can they suspend him? It's not the NRL's problem if he can't find a club stupid enough to sign the sook.

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

he isn't a registered player, he can do what he wants, if he wants to play in the NRL again he will have to serve his suspension. If he was a registered player he would be unable to play in another code, whether he is suspended or not. There's no need to legislate against what hes doing.

Ben Barba and Colombian Marching Powder

If his contract hasn't been registered by the NRL he can do what he wants, but I don't think he can serve an NRL suspension without being a registered player, which means its waiting for him when he returns.

    James Roberts

'Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me', Roberts is a car crash waiting to happen and the Broncos will have no one to blame but themselves. Yet again the club and the game fail to put their brand first, and the whole code gets tarnished when the inevitable happens and the repeat...

    ARLC Commission Changes

Grant will be a lame duck chairman, should have had the decency to resign and allow the game a fresh voice but his ego wouldn't allow it.

    ARLC Commission Changes

They are all the same, Politis is just the best at it.

    ARLC Commission Changes

It's exactly what happened the first time the commission was appointed, every stakeholder in the game clambering to get their guy a seat, stalling any progress until compromise candidates are eventually appointed instead, and we end up back where we are now with a commission devoid of RL...
