    2016 Crowd Watch

It's a bit depressing isn't it? Another year of hoping the fall off is limited to a small percentage.

    2016 super league season

I don't have all the Round 2 attendances but here are 3 of them Salford at home to Saints 4,386, Widnes at home to Leeds 6,596 and Castleford at home to Wakefield 9,761.

    2016 super league season

Leeds thrashed by Widnes. Warrington with back to back early season wins and Castleford beat Wakefield. Lots of unpredictability so far. Warrington probably best pleased after first two rounds. 2 wins and winning with authority.

    2016 super league season

Great attendances. The Wakefield attendance looks poor but in the circumstances of hosting Widnes in mid Winter it was great and the Hull turnout was excellent. Almost 24,000 turned out in Hull this week. All in all an excellent start with the St Helens attendance the only slight...

    2016 super league season

Very healthy attendance of 12,265 at Hull FC's home victory against Salford. this is up on both hull's home opener last season and their home game v Salford. Unfortunately poor wet weather limited the turnout at St Helens to something slightly under 10,500.

    2016 super league season

Just short of 13,500 at the Wigan V Catalans game. Up on last years figure and very acceptable given the fact that for obvious reasons Catalans have severely limited travelling support plus the fact that it is of course still mid winter in Europe.

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

Do you blame people for turning their backs on the NRL during Origin season? The game itself tells them the NRL is simple a feeder system for a trio of representative games on the east coast held in mid season and gutting the NRL teams of talent and interest. Who wants to watch scratch teams in...

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

Well it is a winter sport and sometimes that means inclement weather and Origin is the annual self inflicted wound on the NRL. What properly run professional sport anywhere waits til mid season and then guts each team of its players for weeks while playing a series of Representative games...

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

Origin time. The annual mayhem inflicted on NRL crowds as everyone forgets the clubs for a month while watching representative stuff. What other sport on earth willingly cuts the guts out of its premier competition in mid Season?

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

Sensible post mate. Most posters on here are pretty much core fans. match goers, TV watchers, talk about the game in the bar, buy the newspaper for the sports sections etc etc. On here talk of attendance is preaching to the converted. Out there in the real world a whole host of reasons and...

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

That is my point. Would we all like to see a 20,000 average? Of course. Is a 16,000 average the end of the world? No. We like all sports have to be a bit realistic. we have a match going fanbase. It rises of falls in incrementals over time. Evolutionary not revolutionary changes. In...

    2015 Crowd Watch part II

Not a real concern no. A slight disappointment but not a real concern. Every year this thread is a litany of "coulda woulda shoulda" about attendances. We are told that predictable attendances are "not good enough" or "poor" or "prove that one club or other has no fans" The fact is that...

    2015 Crowd Watch

True but for many people me included anything that takes from the NRL games is a bad thing. International RL is a turn off for me - its just not interesting or competitive enough and I'm no great fans of SOO even though it is competitively far better than Internationals. For me watching...

    2015 Crowd Watch

The simple answer is the AFL mate. Essentially the 2 big codes are geographically separated. RL on the East Coast with its main professional centre in Sydney. AFL in South and West Australia with its professional centre in Melbourne Victoria. Victorian AFL is almost unarguably the...

    2015 Crowd Watch

I agree 100%. Even if you are proven wrong on the Souths crowd your basic point stands up. Fact is we have a league which attracts an average of about 16,000 to its H and A season games. We love 30K blockbusters but thy are few and far between. Would we like to average 20,000? Of course...

    2015 Crowd Watch

We are all great at predicting what SHOULD happen attendance wise and then pronouncing what does happen to be "poor" but by what historical standard is that a poor crowd. The Dogs and Eels had met 10 times at the same stadium in the previous 5 seasons averaging about 27,400. Perhaps the...

    Crowd Watch 2014

Just shows that a stat can be found to prove anything. Lies damn lies and statistics as they say. Souths are a bigger draw at the gate than Easts. That is a simple universally recognised fact. Souths > Easts in terms of fanbase size, memberships and matchgoing support. Fact. To argue...

    Crowd Watch 2014

I agree to a point George but we are not discussing what "should" happen but rather what we think "will in fact" happen. I would love to see upwards of 30K from both clubs turn up at big Sydney "derbies" but it just doesn't happen.

    Crowd Watch 2014

If by "fans" you mean potential matchgoing fans to anything but a Grand Final then no there are not 25,000 Easts fans. Realistically I think 15,000 Easts would be a massive massive turnout. Add about 30,000 Souths at the outside and you get about 45,000. I think it'll be about that. If it...

    Crowd Watch, Part III

It is totally pointless to compare. Apples with oranges. AFL basically gets attendances twice as big as NRL. There are dozens fo reasons for this.: historical, geographic, etc etc Denying this is silly. Harping on about it is equally so. They are different sports.
