Silly commentators. They can't overturn it because the umpire made a call - the batsman has the right to adjust his shot based on the no-ball call. Not that's what happened this time but it would be a silly precedent.

Horrible leave and shocking call though.
Good point, maybe after they look at it it should be a least ruled a deadball??? Australia shouldn't get the run in that instance.

Right feel like some Georgie Pie Super Smash for the evening now.

So smart having BBL after the tests.

Mate, I agree its a shocking call. Really weird too because he is a good umpire and no balls are so seldom called now.

Its just the commentators saying that a call on the field should be overturned. I know its practically impossible but its feasible a batsman will adjust his shot based on hearing no ball.

obviously can't be overturned, just a giant f**k up and I am astounded because for the most part they seem to ignore the front foot these days

exactly what i was thinking

hear the call early enough and it's almost like a free hit

impossible to overturn

Yep, it's so out of the blue. Normally they let most go unless they are way over.

Don Voges the biggest stats padder in the history of cricket.

Yep. Dominant day for Australia - shame it ended with an umpiring blunder - nobody sane thinks it should be overturned, just shouldn't have happened

No one has suggested it should be overturned. That said the argument that a batsman changes their stroke on hearing a no ball is geniused in this case. Surely if you hear no ball you attempt to profit with an aggressive scoring shot. You don't shoulder arms. It's quite clear he didn't change his shot, it's just a poor piece of umpiring where an umpire works off a tip because Bracewell has previously had front foot issues.

Australia always loses an early wicket in the first 5 or so overs on a new day's play,we will be lucky to get to 250 tomorrow,NZ are still well in this thing.

Is it that unlikely that he decided to not play a shot upon hearing a no-ball call in the last over of the day?

With 3 balls to go left in the day i doubt he would have been looking to profit off a no ball call. It's just bad umpiring unfortunately.

The no ball was not called live.

I rewound the footage.

Stump mics are on. Hear the bowler's feet land. Celebration then deflation.

No audible no ball call.

Good luck at 131 km having umpire react after with arm and then changing any shot before ball is on stumps when your focus is on the bowler's hand.

Im not suggesting cheating, just saying that Voges could not hear a no ball call because it didn't occur.

Of course. Why would you care for example if you play and get caught:? He definitely didn't change shots, anyone who has played the game can tell you that would make no sense

Which proves the point. He was always going to shoulder arms.

That really doesn't disprove Meth and Hiney.

Leaving a no ball in the last over of a day in a test is a valid strategy.

But the fact remains:

The no ball was not called live.

No audible "no ball" call.

Good luck at 131 km having umpire react after with his right arm signal and then changing any shot before ball is on stumps when your focus is on the ball from the bowler's hand to the umpire's left.

Did you play test cricket Ifaeta?
