Good day for Australia, but far from over yet

Ideally we would like to bat into Day 3 if possible, but that's very unlikely

Anything less than a 150 plus lead will be disappointing

Dud performance all around.

Hopefully we finally drop Southee to #11. What a dropkick.

Batting was horrible, but dropping Smith was the one that cost.

The howler at the end was just a cherry on top of the shit pie that we were more than happy to bake for ourselves.

Of course. Why would you care for example if you play and get caught:? He definitely didn't change shots, anyone who has played the game can tell you that would make no sense

I've played the game- not at Test level though.

Look, I think Voges premeditated the leave, was embarrassingly bowled and reprieved by a bad umpiring call. But I can see a rationale for a player in the last over of the first day opting to not play a shot or even move his feet on account of a no ball call.

All academic though. We'll never know

Huh?

Misread the line, length or both you mean, surely?

Not even the Don Voges could be so certain as to the bowler's next ball missing the stumps or being a no ball so as to premeditate a leave and carry through with the lack of any shot, including a bailout defensive effort, whatsoever. Surely, you don't think he doesn't look for the ball as and after the bowler's releasing and released it and react accordingly?

Else, I think we found a factor as to why your cricket career did not advance to test level.

Yeah, what I meant was that he had no intention of playing an attacking shot- it was either going to be defensive or evasive.

Also, don't talk to me.

Good day of cricket and a quality thread aswell. One of my favourite moments was Antilag criticising Australians sense of humour. As if he isn't the most anal and humourless person on the planet.

Not true.

I know the post that you are referring too and I quote it below. I merely praised The Charlatan for having a keen sense of humour for an Aussie. Which he does. I never criticized Australians' sense of humour. I even laughed at a joke of Hineys' at the expense of NZ's misfortune at Adelaide.

Your communication abilities, however, is questionable to me on the basis of the above post. (For the sake of clarity, that is yours personally mozza91, not all Australians.)

Just not having f**king highways would be nice. They don't have to have greentop slaughterhouses, as you said something in it for the bowler otherwise they ought to rename cricket in Australia "batting."

You have a keen sense of humour for an Aussie.

You're good value.

Off the glove, but that could of Come from anything.

That's absolute bullshit!!!!

That could of come from anything FFS!!

Bring back Nigel Llong......

Are you prepared to offer more than $1.30 which is what Sportsbet are offering?

that low?

Don't be surprised if that rises during tomorrow

Kiwis will bat a lot better in the 2nd dig, we have a tendency to crumble quick
We bat through all day tomorrow with wickets in hand come day 3, ill give you $1.01 :)

I'd say the 'for an Aussie' part could be construed as an insult to other Australians sense of humour.
But I won't because it sounds like something you'd say.

Its cute watching big brother England winning the ashes ?? :p

each their own

Given how hard it is to win away games in modern cricket:
Games won by England in the 13/14 Ashes series in Aus: 0/5
Games won by Australia in the '15 Ashes series in Eng: 2/5

That's victory Aus in my opinion.

FFS lads, why are we all so wound uptight?

Shit call on Voges, Kiwi's hard done by there.

I only saw the highlights this evening, Nevill's catch for Williamson was stellar. He'd have every right feeling hard done by. Wade not only would have missed it, he would have dived three metres to his right and fractured Smith's ribcage, rendering him unfit for the rest of the series.

Losing the Ashes flat out sucks, no doubt about it. But to put those 2 wins in perspective, NZ has won 5 of the 54 tests they have played in England.

Draw is excellent value imo. We still have to bowl them out again and that is no certainty on a pitch that is going to flatten right out.

There's no way this is a draw, unless something happens with rain. We bat 2/3 sessions today, leaving 9 sessions in the game, let's say we get a lead of 200+, they'll need to make 400-500 in their 2nd dig if they want to win (100 runs a sessions, that's 4/5 sessions), leaving us with 4/5 sessions to chase down 300 or so, either way there will be a result.

I'd fancy a NZ win before I would fancy the draw and if we bat well enough today, both of those results are out the window.
