Williamson's recent innings.

88, 60, 65, 77, 71 (ODI series v India)

His previous six test innings- 114, 74, 62, 45, 58, 56

He's on 81* as we speak

Yeah, I'm pretty pumped.

His average is better than Smiths by like ~1. Smiths average is also a little deflated from his first stint in the side (under Clarkes captaincy he averages a touch over 40 for example) so Smiths average is on the increase as well.

Yeah, fair enough.

Same could be said for Williamson though.

If you write Williamson off for not having proved himself v Australia, South Africa and England, how can you champion Smith who has more or less exclusively played against England?

his rise to fame was in the sub continent where most people fall from grace, cemented his spot in the Aussie team over there

doesn't have a good technique Smiffy but the kid has some starch

Best Test innings I can see over there from Smith is 92, followed by 3 pretty average innings.

I am not championing I am just telling you to calm down. How many 100s has Williamson scored in Australia, South Africa or England ? He has had 12 innings. (the answer is 0)

He might well be a very good player or he might be a player who can't play a swinging ball or one with a bit of bounce.

Hardly need to calm down. I said he is a better prospect than Smith, not a better batsmen than Ponting.

Actually the comparison was Williamson vs The next Don Bradman, Hughes.

So not even close. And I don't think its even close between Steven Smith and Williamson about who is the better now, and long term.

Also, I'm sure this will buy B Mac about another 2 innings before the same old people are calling for him to be dropped

you said he'd only played against England or words to that effect

he's played against Pakistan and India away and England away and at home

considering his shit start he's done pretty well to get his current average up to 36+

I said 'more or less' exclusively played against England. 17 Tests. 13 of them v England.

Williamson will be our first drop for the next 10 years at least. I said a year or so into his Test career (on this forum) that he will easily be NZ's top run scorer of all time and should average somewhere in the mid 40's (which for a nzer is elite) This was when he was averaging in the 20's and 95% of Australian posters were trashing him and going on about that Hughes guy, who probably plays grade Cricket now.

Hughes in in RSA with the Aussie team but I dont think he'll get a run, he's the leading run scorer in Aussie first class cricket.

I cant see him having much of a test career.

If by grade cricket you mean the backup tour batsmen to South Africa yes.

Says something about the current young crop coming through that Chris Martins bunny is the next cab of the ranks.

And I shouldn't disrespect grade Cricket, I should have said Big Bash league.
