Interesting thing to note in that graph- I may be wrong but the Bulldogs started playing at ANZ (regularly I mean) in 1999, Wests in 2005 and Souths in 2007.
Note the large increase in their average?

homebush gets bigger crowds vs surburban grounds.

the dogs wouldnt be getting 18,000 or so at belmore.

and i think its the tip of the iceberg for the dogs and souths. add another 10 - 15,000 to their crowds and i think thats realistic.

edit : its just that cronulla, dragons, penrith and manly wont work at homebush.

well the cowboys are doing horrible and it is Monday

if they were in the top 4, no doubt 20k ,if not close, would've been likely

Interesting that the crowds of the Roosters and Rabbitohs are kinda opposite each other, when the Souths crowd dropped in 1996, the Roosters crowd rose, and when the Souths crowd rose in 2007, the Roosters crowd dropped.

The pressures on the clubs aren't the same though..

Sydney could always get sh*t crowds because the clubs' income always came from pokies, with that gone, the clubs need good crowds to stay alive.

How can you be so short sighted Dally, you don't have a clue when it comes to finance and the games appeal to corporate Australia.

It might seem a bit bizarre but we only need to beat 12,774 to have the highest round 14 crowd average from the last 5 years. That means we need something like 12,600 for the Cows vs Knights game tomorrow night to set the record.
Sure, 13,000 is a low crowd average and people might see it and be a bit dismayed, but it's also possible you're all dissing the new round 14 crowd average record.

It's funny what a good graph will show you....:)

looks like we broke the record then with over 14,000 tonight.

how does the average now compare to the record year of 06?

All you interested is crowd numbers on paper and think that 14000 has broke a record. What record for the worst crowds in modern day australian Rugby League histroy.

Round average of 13,262 making it the best rnd 14 in at least 5 years.

Weird. :?

And just to see what it did to the season....

Round-by-round-comparison.gif

See. Round record.

Running-average.gif

Which puts the running average in a much better position over the last 2 seasons.
Interesting- I had a look at the upcoming rounds and the gap between 2005 and 2008 should reduce till about round 18 where 2005 will probably pull away again. To beat 2005 we'll need a stellar build up to the finals. Could happen, especially with the log jam at the top three quarters of the table.

SeasonTotal.gif

The byes really screw with the total. Having said that we're still on for a tight finish with last years total. Again, it will all depend on the build up to the finals.

the other thing about crowds is the averages are good but weve added more teams so the total crowds are much higher.

going back through history the total crowds we are getting now arent far off 20 teams or something like that.

so the addition of souths and the titans hasnt diluted the averages.

with those 2 clubs weve added something like 40,000 more fans every time these play at home (counting some away fans but i think it makes the point)

its not as if 2 new teams has brought the competition back, its helped it

14,234 Townsville.

That is a bad crowd for NQLD. Normally a lot better.

What is the weather like?
Bloody cold. It couldn't be over 18 degrees atm. The clear skies are letting all the heat escape at night :)

That crowd figure is interesting because the Sunday Mail reported that the Cowboys had pre-sold 14500 and were hoping for a big walk-up as well.

whoopee do 13,000, that will keep the bailiffs from the door!

Yeah, my sarcasm didn't get through very well. It does show you how bad things have been though.

Also means we've only had one round below 12,000 and we should be past the worst of it. 2005 is the mark to beat and it had only one round below 12,000 for the whole season as well so you never know...

Those membership drives might be putting a solid floor under some of the crowds, even if ANZ is showing us how far we still have to go.
