They don't need to do it, just pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it. Seems most membership effort goes into getting the converted to resign rather than generate new members from a dormant fanbase or non RL public. Either that or accept NRL clubs are just not very popular and have a small fanbase and this is the best we can hope for, in Sharks case that is probably true.

Marketing in the traditional sense is no longer really going to achieve the cut-through the NRL wants.

Targeted stuff, warm calls (i.e. lapsed renewals) and using existing data to push memberships to families and ticket purchasers is where the gains are to be made. If the NRL wants to help providing $$ and resources to that is where it'll grow.

Notice Melbourne Storm membership has dropped down to 744.Who is in charge of their site ?

The lack of movement shown by some clubs and/or no numbers shown at all is downright amateurish.
Get a 12 year old who can use a keyboard FFS to do the job.

Nothing on your membership page to suggest it is in operation and like I said it should be an NRL thing so every club has it and every fan is encouraged to get involved. Part of the issue at the moment is that their is no consistency in approach or outcome, if it is an NRL strategic goal to see membership growth then they have a responsibility to be involved in operations to meet that goal.

You asked for an idea, it took me 10 secs to google to find one that would have benefits if the NRl was running it. I am sure if they paid me $600k I could come up with a whole strategy for them, if Richo can do it I am sure I can!

It happens
Like I said ..around the actual start of the season.

they've been doing it for a while now.
They email members with details when it's on.
When they do it again I'll be sure to show you my members email.

why time limited, why not all the time? Surely if it is effective then it should be part and parcel of the membership drive strategy, and that's where the NRL comes in.......

Most clubs are useless at marketing and sales, much easier for one good guru/company at NRL level to lead it then expect 16 clubs to get their sht together.

Probably because it is a shit idea that hardly gets any new members anyway.
plus there is the chance that current members might turn it into a loophole with their mates who would have become members regardless.
How would one guru give equal levels of marketing to all the different clubs?
It is bloody geniused to think it would work.
It's almost as dumb as building one stadium that 1/4 of the comp call a home ground.

Aren't membership numbers rising year on year?

As per the LU counter --> http://bit.ly/2016NRLMembers <-- there are now over 180k across the 16 clubs. Souths' figure still at 27,347 as it was a week ago though. Broncos cracked 20k and Dogs 15k. Titans still languishing with 4.2k.

Raiders and Cowboys both have some sort of counter on their sites now which is handy while the Warriors have a dedicated twitter account which updates the numbers fairly regularly, leaving only the Roosters and Wests Tigers as the clubs not really coming to the party. Their numbers appear in Rugby League Central at Moore Park, but don't get updated a whole lot I believe.

At a dragons fan night they said its only about 60% renewal each year. So for us that's 8k new fans signing up each year. Obviously need to target getting as close to 100% as possible in order to actually grow substantial amounts rather than 5-10% growth.

If PR doesn't think each club has people in those direct roles - knowing the churn levels, doing targeted marketing, then he's clueless.
