That you can’t understand the difference between interested bidders who have made a song and dance in the media and interested bidders we know exist but haven’t astounds me lol

IF the nrl just threw open the door for club 18 license as you reckon they will, which they won’t, then I’d expect we‘ see bids come in from a wide range of areas and groups who havent held a press release yet.

We know there is a consortium in perth led by Cumins putting a bid together. To say anything else is disingenuous on your part.

League was in a great position in 94 for sure. Four new teams in 1995 was too many though - should have been NQ and NZ in 95 then Brisbane 2 and Perth in 98/99. Anyway AFL is very successful on many metrics, to pretend that they are failing and NRL is kicking their ass is f**king geniused and cringeworthy.
Should have been Warriors and Crushers. The Reds and Cowboys needed a few years to get their finances in order and not have to cover the travel and accommodation expenses of their opponents. Forcing the Cowboys and Reds to fund the travel and accommodation costs of their opponents was always going to bankrupt them.

Don’t know about the cowboys but the perth club owners reckon the travel costs weren’t a problem and were factored into their business case until the ARL added the extra side at u21’s and paying for three travelling sides wasn’t viable. That was key decision in deciding to accept SL funding.

The whole reds were in debt is a total furphy according to the chairman of the time, they were only in debt because of the massive inflation of players and coaches salaries due to SL and news ltd happy to spend to cover those ridiculous costs. As justification for their cutting they then said they were in massive debt, no sht Sherlock that’s what happens when you pay five to ten times the salary costs than was budgeted for!

There is no doubt that player salaries would have absolutely dwarfed any travel costs during the SL war.

If memory serves me correctly some clubs player wages bill more then quadrupled from $3M to $12M.

And barely first graders like Reggie Cressbrook got deals in the order of a $1M a season.

The Cowboys had to spend $800k per annum flying opposition teams to Townsville and providing them with accommodation. On top of this, they needed to build a brand new stadium and pay their players. The annual grant back then was just $500k. The salary cap was $1.6m. The Cowboys had a self-imposed salary cap of $1.3m.

In all honesty, the Cowboys and Reds should have been denied entry into the 1995 ARL premiership. The ARL didn't have the finances to cover travel, accommodation and the salary cap for either club. Neither the Reds nor the Cowboys had a sugar daddy to bail them out. It's why they signed with News Ltd in 1995 when the exorbitant costs sent them over the edge.

The West Coast Eagles were saddled with the travel and accommodation costs of all VFL clubs that played in Perth. It bankrupted them by the end of the 1980s. They were bailed out by a local company called Indian Pacific. The ARL should have learnt from the Eagles' example before heaping the same stipulation on the Reds and Cowboys.

Arthurson and Quayle should have waited until 2000 or later before expanding. The broadcast deal they signed with Packer only provided $10m per annum and didn't end until 2000.

Very easy to search posts, especially when they are this deluded... then he craps on defending it, coz someone else thought it was too anglo
So you're going to get in on the lying game as well are you?

Just going to pretend that you didn't notice that it was actually Pippen that came up with The Smith's, then attributed it to me?

You really are a dumb merkin.

They pulled the same shit on the Raiders and Steelers as well.

Paying for teams to bus down to Canberra or Wollongong wasn't a big a financial burden as paying for flights to Townsville and Perth would have been, but it still had a significant financial impact on them.

Because they’re fcktards and it was easier to move perth to Melbourne as they owned the club. They didnt own Cronulla.

how did they own Perth and not Cronulla

they could’ve booted Cronulla if they wanted too

perhaps they saw first hand what a rugby league club in Perth was doing in terms of tv ratings

let’s hope they were wrong about killing off Perth for a small Sydney club

Really

and yet the raiders won their first title just seven years after admission into the nswrl when other clubs could take 50 years

they really were struggling financially they spent more than the salary cap on one of the best rosters in the league
