To the few dickheads who go on about Parra's bandwagon fans, wake up all clubs have them, and not suprisingly they come out when their team is actually having a go and willing to part with their hard earned whether that b on merchandise or attending the game, u guys seem to forget Parra were beaten by both Wooden Spoon contenders, maybe that's why they got those initial crowds, so wake up to yourselves you poor dumb f**ks and enjoy the champagne football the EELS are playing and worry about your own teams.

Parra bandwagons will be out in force next week with a sellout against Panthers i predict.

Absolute joke they can get 7000 to a game earlier in the year and then a potential 20000 when they start winning a few games. Althought I commend those 7000 diehard fans that come every week.
And this concerns you how?

"Due to being at the SFS"? :lol:

On Friday night?

The entire area in and around the CBD became f**king bedlam :lol:
At the end of the day it is a much better ground to watch footy at than ANZ, much closer to the action and in a game like last night it helped.

Once it starts up, there are not many bandwagons bigger than the Parra one.

Thats bullsh*t. The biggest bandwagon in Sydney has to be Souths. They had one big rally, then disappeared for a couple of years, then reappeared when Crowe took over, stuck those stupid white rabbits on their cars for 1 season and FBI is searching for them again.

Agreed. I hadn't been to SFS until yesterday but FMD it is awesome. It had better atmosphere than the 50K we got against Dogs in 2007 @ ANZ.

Going by the crowd stats up to round 23 on this website: http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/summary.html, and adding the crowd totals for the first 4 games played in round 24 (Friday night & Saturday games), the updated totals so far this year are:

2,725,088 (172 games), average: 15,844.

For the remaining 20 games this year, we need:

* To break the all-time crowd average (16,468 for 180 games in 2005): another 436,768 at an average of 21,839 for remaining 20 games.

* To break the 2nd-highest all-time crowd average (15,750 for 192 games in 2007): another 298,952 at an average of 14,948 for remaining 20 games.

* To break the all-time aggregate attendance in a season (home & away rounds excluding finals) - 3,061,893 for 220 games in 1995: another 336,805 (16,841 average for remaining 20 games).

* To reach the 3,000,000: another 274,912 (13,745 average for remaining 20 games).

Top 5 crowd averages:
2005 - 16,468
2009 - 15,844 (so far)
2007 - 15,750
2006 - 15,600
2008 - 15,591

A bit surprising that the centenary year 2008 is only 5th on the all-time list.

Silly comment to make....these team don't get travelling support as do the Sydney teams.

Exactly, when two Sydney teams are playing each other they should be getting a min 20,000 no probs, that is only 15,000 home fans and 5,000 "away" fans.

NRL fans still showing up

* By Phil Rothfield and Rebecca Wilson
* From: The Sunday Telegraph
* August 23, 2009 12:01AM

DESPITE the worst possible year for player misbehaviour and negative headlines, NRL crowds are defying trends in other codes to record a rise in attendances this season.

With three rounds to be completed before the finals, Sydney crowds are up 1.8 per cent on the back of surges from Parramatta and Wests Tigers, combined with the season-long success of the Bulldogs and St George Illawarra. The NRL is a chance to break 3million fans in the regular season for just the third time. On top of that, sales of club merchandise have gone through the roof over the past month. The Bulldogs are up 200 per cent and the Dragons an amazing 350 per cent. This compares to the AFL and A-League, who have had sharp declines this year. Friday night's Sydney Football Stadium crowd of almost 35,000 was even more remarkable considering paranoid Tigers coach Tim Sheens had banned his players from appearing on The Footy Show and doing interviews with The Daily Telegraph. Surely, he has been around long enough to know media bans don't win footy games - as was proven again on Friday night against the Eels. "Given the current economic climate and the predictions that many people made about our crowds at the start of the year, to surpass 3million fans for the season would be a great achievement,'' NRL boss David Gallop said. "The great crowds are a reflection of the great footy we are enjoying.''

This is a common mis-representation of the Souths fan base, and the mistake has been made by plenty before you Angry Eel. Anyone who attended the march would be well aware that the 100 odd thousand people were a combined effort of rugby league supporters including St.George, Norths, and many others. It was a showing of people power that us the fans make this game and not news limited.

Fair enough, Souths did have a huge bandwagon in 2007, for about a month when they made their run, but the Parra one is something different, I live and went to school in Parra territory, when the Eels were losing, nobody really talked about the footy at all, then when they string a few wins together, all of a sudden everyone is an eels fan, I assume it's different in other areas but that's my personal experience.

Same could be said about any other team. Winning games brings back fans. I lived in the Penrith district in 2003. I went to school there in 2004-2005. The bandwagon was there in 2004. By 2005 it had disappeared.

However, we have a 10-15 thousand fans base which turns up to most games. Anytime Parramatta get more than 15 thousand fans, there are two possibilities, 1) The opposition had alot of supporters, 2) there is a bandwagon.
