So I suppose, and I can't be f**ked looking, but I suppose you would have been telling us dumbo's here in 2023 pre season we were probably going to miss the finals for a couple of seasons on the trot because the window was closed, and that the Dolphins by the same token should be playing finals both years because of the advantages they have being a brand new team??

Majority tipped Dolphins to not win more then 4 games

Hmmmmm.... Pou strangely quiet in response to some telling questions so far. If I didn't know better I'd say he's waiting for someone to post something he loosely agrees with, only to them post the same sentiment immediately after it so that he can then post, "FFS" at some point thereafter ....

The jig is up merkin....

Edited to be 2018 and yep same as Dolphins but an established club coming off a GF year and 4 consecutive years of finals should outperform a new club.
I totally disagree. That level of relative success implies a whole bunch of backended contracts, that would have to be paid for later (i.e. now). The Dolphins had none of that to deal with.

For a related example, look at the success of expansion teams in the NFL. The salary cap punishes success, and rewards clean slates.

Edit: expansion ffs

Nine news. NSW SOO team bus from Katoomba to Homebush. Vision of Madge getting off the bus shanking hands with (I think) Sarintinos wearing a Blues scaff. Was it him or are Gazzas senior eyes playing up on him?20240602_184523.jpg

Didn't those players all sign for other clubs before we made the GF in 2022?
They were still in our squad at finals time. The fact they signed elsewhere for the following year shows our 2023 salary cap was already under pressure at the start of 2022. The club is aware of their salary forecasting. They know how much cap space the have next year and the year after and the year after that. They don't get to go out and negotiate a whole new 30 man squad with a completely empty salary cap every year. Engineering a premiership window means back ending contracts so that some years have more merkins on unders than other years. The more players on unders the more talent you can fit in the squad. When these unders contracts mature, the window shuts. Even the biggest clubs go through it, and our window ended at the 2022 grand final. It started in '19 or '20.

The 2022 grand final was the end of our premiership window. Without it our players wouldn’t have gotten such good offers from rivals for 2023+

Meanwhile the Dolphins had a full cap with no baggage to recruit with. They had no legacy contracts (ageing/injured players) holding them back. You’re acting like being new is a disadvantage.
Just like the Western Sydney Wanderers in their first year.

Well like you I'm an Eels fan and hope clouds my judgement about our chances. For example I had $100 on the Eels to win the comp this year, at $23. That's a lot more than the favourites were paying, but after beating Manly in round three it was looking like good value. Then we lost Moses.

The point of this is that whatever sports fans think about their teams' chances, it's not exactly reliable. Hindsight is king, and with even average luck with injuries and suspensions last year we would've won another game and made the finals. We might've even won a game when we got there. You never know your luck.

Regarding the Dolphins, pundits thought they'd do poorly and they did. But like most shit teams, they were able to recruit well over the next off season and this year they have a lot more quality in the squad.

Betting against the majority is how punters win money. I make money every year from gambling on the NRL. If I wasn't a coward I'd bet so much I'd never have to work again. Don't ever take the majority's tips as gospel.

When I make my worst bets is when betting on Parra.

I reckon professionals have a different approach. They bet big on short priced favourites. Your $1.25s
Put $1000 on and that's $250.

The longer it goes with not a lot of noise out of the eels I think it's Cheika.
He has no manager so nothing will leak in the media.
I think the eels want a name and publicity that will create interest and also the best man manager.
I think he will form a team of assistants probably Matt King being one and will get the job.
Moses is the one they will listen to from a players voice as he is the one that is locked in and let's be honest we win and lose on Moses and will back Cheika in for sure
I hate Rugba Leeg merkins like Slater but I hate Yawnion merkins even more. I'm not renewing my membership if it's Cheika.

Probably. But I make most of my money on odds of about $3. I win more often than those odds indicate I should. Maybe it's the professionals tanking the price of the favourites that artificially boosts the prices of the other bets.
