You are carrying on like he is a bad player, give him credit. That is all.

I am not saying he is a bad player. He is excellent in defence, support play and goal kicking. His attitude is brilliant too. He just needs to improve in some areas before we go offer him crazy money.

Outside of this Panther forum it definitely is becoming a thing. It makes me happy to see our fans back the team(damn good team it is) but this origin period has really not done Cleary a lot of favours as far as how he's seen as a halfback. Even Brad Fittler and Nathan himself said he was not where he should've been.

It's because he isn't above criticism anymore.

NRL fans are finally rating him for what he is. The NSW halfback, he is our best in the state. He is one step away from going to the next level and representing his country.

The best thing is his attitude. Publicly he doesn't fight it and he is quite candid with the media and fans if he doesn't play well.

Exactly right. It shows he's at the next level now.

His playing has not gone to the next level, his reputation has. I’m not knocking him he is a great kid but I don’t understand comments like this one Oldy. How has he gone to the next level? Where has his game improved to another level? He is just playing in a better team now.

he hasn't played every game this year to judge though. Nothing to right him off or too say he lifted Yet

I mean he is playing origin and expected to lead us to a premiership as a halfback so he's gone beyond a rookie who's finding his feet. Basically what you've said about his reputation and as such is going to start attracting criticism just like every other player in the game.

Of course. I’m not writing him off I just think people are getting carried away with the narrative of what he could be and what he could do because he is young, hardworking and is an nrl coaches son.

If he was joe Smith with those same achivements he'd still be in demand ticks many boxes and plenty upside to take the risk. Things would of been different for the dogs if they kept Thurston over Sherwin.

Sherwin won as many premierships as NQ did with Thurston.

Very true tho I think the dogs would've won more had they kept JT. They are a big club without the excessive travel, they would've had a good team around including Sonny Bill.

Anyway Thurston shouldn't be getting mentioned when discussing Cleary. Cleary is never going to be a player like JT. Moylan is a lot more similar to JT than Cleary is.

Make more sense now?
