Bromwich and Tamou would be on the same though. Adam Blair too yet look at his output.

Those types of guys are needed though. The coach isn't even present most of the time for recovery and gym sessions.

You hope they pass what they learn from the successful clubs to the new players. Good habits get passed on.

For me a starting prop should gain 100m and make 20 tackles a game. He does that so fine with me. Other forwards are improving so the extra stuff must be working too

Ahh yes just what we need a younger team

Or instead of being sarcastic/dismissive there is the option to buy someone. A young prop wouldn't be an issue anyway since RCG has taken the mantle as our best forward. Between RCG and Merrin we have forward leadership now.

Yes MX... Coaches come on the field with the players. My mistake

You're the one that said Aussie Jim is there for more than on field (I assume the off part in your post was a typo) stuff, and MX pointed out that we have coaches and trainers for that... then you say something about coaches and trainers on the field...? I'm confused

You sign experienced guys for more then off field. Recovery, Diet, Attitude to training etc all part of the package with experienced guys.

Yeah who gives a f**k how the team or players perform on the field. Its not like the trainers or coach or anyone can help with that stuff.

Not that ticked all the boxes. I hate using figures for this argument lets do that. Tamou ($750K) RCG is going to atleast match Angus Crichton ($850k) next deal. If the figures are right both he and Woods ($800K) are on more then Tamou.

Tamou has won a comp neither of the above have. Neither have even reached finalsThere was the option of going older and cheaper like Heighington ($200K) but he is barely FG standard now.

We ave 70 FG games per player in our squad. That includes 4 that have played 200 games. The likes of Merrin and Tamou are needed to get these guys ready

Early in the week. Coaches are usually watching tapes of the opposition.
The tape of the last week's game.
Talking to doctors about injuries
Talking to lower grade coaches/Assistants about tactics

During the game a young guy makes a big hit and gets too excited
Or a mistake and heads drop. Older guys are needed to help calm the situation or keep the team's structure

Coaches can only do so much. The rest of the time it is up to the players so team balance needs a few older guys.

So I was being sarcastic

RCG an above average prop at the start of 2017, now an elite one. Kikau heading in the same direction. You cant say that Tamau wouldn't have an influence on them.

Our forward pack is very efficient and professional. No team is better at rucking it up field. Guys like Tamau and Merrin bring that professionalism with them.

Similar thing was Tim Grant when we signed Petro. Within a year he was playing SOO.

Everyone defended Hiku too until we offloaded him.
Hiku was a buy we didn't need, possibly (expensive) insurance in case Waqa Blake didn't make the grade. He was always a decent first grader, but he was surplus to requirements for us from the start and to be honest wasn't treated all that well by the club. His ACL didn't help his cause either. He seems to be going well at the Warriors.

Lui-Toso is the same. No doubt with the injuries he will play FG now and he was a fringe NSW Cup player this time last year.

I wouldn't re-sign Tamou but in the next 2 years after this I expect more props to come on

Thats what an average starting prop should do. An elite one on elite player money should do a f**king hell of a lot more on field than an average player on average money. Tamou isnt being paid to be that.

But more important than that even they should be able to swing momentum of the game. An elite front rower should be able to come up with atleast a couple of rampaging runs where he gains some good metres while carrying a few blokes. Gets a quick play the ball has the opposition retreating so the halves can do their thing with more space. There's no shortage of fromt rowers doing that. It's why RCG became an international rep last year

Tamou has only had a handful of runs like that. And usually they're on the back of another guy gaining the initial momentum. Zlthough even if he piled onto others momentum it would be fine.

When Tamou is on and RCG is off. The opposition are the ones winning the battle in the middle of the field. James Tamou just needs to run that little bit harder that bit more often and get to his feet that bit quicker. Ideally to either get a defence going backwards or even while they're doing so.

I get that you were being sarcastic, but your original point was that Tamou gives advice on "Recovery, Diet, Attitude to training etc" and when it was pointed out that in fact coaches and trainers do that, you said something about coaches and trainers not being on the field... I honestly don't think you really know what you're arguing about anymore...

I agree about the experience. We have Merrin, Maloney(the best organiser/talker here) and now RCG doing through action. If Tamou is about what he's doing off the field he is starting to become redundant.

Meters per run is the best KPI for a prop

Next best is meters per minute (similarly tackles per minute)

Then total meters

Total meters is a difficult figure to compare club to club especially. Some clubs will have a different style of prop rotation, more quality props overall.

Sounds exactly like Tamou

Overs for a guy who didnt actually improve us. We had Latimore, Matagi and Akauolo doing a terrific job for us from the bench. They gained momentum for us more times than Tamou did.

Yeah they might make an error. But they also forced them with brutal hits. The momentum they could create was why we were so much better in 2016 than 2017. Outside of RCG we didnt have anyone scattering the opposition like bowling pins.

If he could break into a sprint he would be pretty brutal as a prop. He has good size and strength. Combined with experience he shhould be able to pick the time for his "big run".
