My god Legend, you must be nearly as old as me.

At least Jimi is at the top of the list, where he belongs.

As there will be much discussion about this topic, ppl will name their favourite, based on the style of music that prefer.

It is difficult to compare guitarists from different eras.

Like comparing RL players from different eras.

However, let the debate continue.

hendrix was a mess and overated

his playing was messy and uneven and overly influenced by how out of it he was

slash hasnt got passed the blues scale

you see better players in garage bands

Ouch Millers!!!

Hendrix may have been a bit sloppy and im sure he was out of it alot of the time. But surely you must admit he played with alot of feel and was one of the greatest influences there has been on (rock) guitar?

Slash may not be as diverse as some players but fancy and whiz bang playing does not always equal better than a basic blues scale if its what the song needs. Slash is also a master of feel in his music as opposed to technical wizardry (sp).

These are of course my humble opinions 8)

Shit, you must be right there millersnose, I mean, Hendrix is overrated to the point that he's still talked about whenever people talk about guitarists 34 years after his death.

I'll bet his records are still selling 34 years after his death because he was a talentless tone-deaf noise polluter. That's surely the reason.

Most people wouldn't even know which bands Iommi and Gilmour played with.

Overrated.

Granted, I've heard some dodgy live recordings from Jimi that leave a little to be desired.
But that's the kind of broad, sweeping statement that truly shows your ignorance.

Go and find a copy of Electric Ladyland and try again.

Ahh i just saw something in your first post Millers, you are a fender fan i take it? Much like Gilmour.

Dont get me wrong i love a Fender as did Hendrix but in a ford v holden kind of way the guitar world has the Fender v Gibson rivialry. My heart lies with the greatest guitar the almighty Gibson Les Paul!!! Combined with a cranking Marshall Amp and i just feel it cant be beaten :D

Hmm sounds like you enjoy some good sounding guitars Millers. Not being able to have owned a Gibson or Fender (yet) myself i have read alot that say the Gibsons from the 60's have a better sound than the new models released now. Ive read that quite a bit but dont know first hand.

Either way you sound like you have a great set-up and some decent skills playing some of Hendrix's stuff.

Just out of Intrest do you notice the mass difference in weight from the Gibson to the Strat copy??

I have my original old 'star force' strat copy from 15 years ago when i started and a new 'cort' guitar which is similar to a les paul in shape and also a hardwood timber body. The difference in weight when it is strapped around your neck is quite huge!!!

I play out of a Marshall AVT 150 half stack although having had this for about 1.5 years im not 100% happy with the sound. I have heard better Marshalls but dont really have the cash for a full tube set-up. Ive grown sort of used to the sound i get but its not what i want exactly. The earlier Small Marshal combo with stereo chorus i had was nicer. Oh well, one day.

I dunno where it said at the start "Who is the most technically perfect guitarist ever".

The real test is who those people named would call their role models and inspirations and most of the guys named would say Hendrix.....

Also just on Malmsteen have you heard the plane flight where some lady pours water on him for some reason and he goes nuts! He tells her 'shes unleashed the f**kin fury' and some spanish sounding guy with says 'you want a war, we will give er a f**kin war' (in your best spanish/mexican accent)

Funny.
