john butler live is mesmerising, not just with his catchy blues folk 12 string ability but the feeling you can see him put into each and every note.

not to bad for a bloke that started playing because he's dead pop gave him the guitar. self taught aswell

Ron Jeremy, I voted for Eddie I'll have you know and I agree with everything you say. My fave VH album is 5150 as I was more a fan of Hagar than Roth and some of my favourite VH songs like Best Of Both Worlds, Dreams, Summer Nights, Good Enough and Why Can't This Be Love.

FFS, The Edge was on the Rolling Stone list and his music is piss easy to play.

Wise choice.

I love all the singers & albums......even Cherone was awesome when i saw him live at the Entertainment centre in 97.

My Favourite VH album though is the first!!....this is simply just an amazing album and a album which completey changed the way the guitar is played.

My favourite songs of this album would have to be " Im the one", " You really got me", " on fire" & " Jamie's Cryin".....god i love these songs to death.

When i first heard " Eruption" it just blew me away....i was so determined to have this song down pat that i practiced it everyday & for 4 months leading up to my year 12 music exams, i completely stunned everyone...and when when i finished of the tapping sequence there was already an applause.....great memory for me.

Of the Hagar albums...i love " Dreams" & " Human beings"...they are probably my favourite.

One thing also about VH is the great singing harmony they had, this is wher Michael Anthony was so important to the band....he gave them a great background sound.

BTW

Simo, the " Little guitars" intro is a gem...but personally " Spanish Fly" & "Eruption" do it for me.

If you wan't to play a song by VH...do " Im the one"....it has everything from blues to great tapping.

Herd Mustaines solo from the song Ride The Lightning!!!

Gothebears,

Was Mustaine still with Metallica in ride the lighting??

I thought he only had some stuff on Kill em' all??

I LOVE GUITAR THREADS!! I usually get a new player i dont know from the discussions and end up enjoying the music!
Mustaine wrote the Ride the Lightning solo as well as helping to write Call of the Ktulu on Ride The Lightning.

I've got the Led Zeppelin 2 DVD set and Jimmy Page is just amazing on that so I'll give him my vote by a whisker over Jimi Hendrix.

BTW - I agree with Brook, I'm a big Nirvana fan but Kurt only played simple songs with simple cords and was not a great guitarist.

In the double Zeppelin set live, Page plays the guitar with a violin bow in Dazed and Confused. He was an incredible giuitarist and was credited with teaching Eric Calpton.

Jimmi's ability to make a guitar talk, and his work on the wah wah, is why I voted for him.

The foot pedals thay had back then were nothing like the pedals around now.

Jimmy was the master of the wah wah

Just shows how much people know what a good guitarist is, would you classify Abba as the greatest band in the world even thought they are probably the biggest selling album of all time??, People have just been brainwashed with Hendrix this & that.

As i have stated earlier, why is Jimmy Hendrix so good???...forget he was charismatic & played a wah pedal..because David Lee Roth was a flamboynat singer yet a average singer.

Ohwell atleast i have my thoughts....and atleast they are in time & tune im happy...can't say that about Kurt i mean Jimmy.

Jimmy Hendrix was the God of Wah just like Andy Summers was the king of the Delay & Cobain the king of the grunge pedal.

there is no doubt hendrix is overated

page live is overated also - out of tune frequently and just plays fast blues licks sometimes for 20 farging minutes!!!! complete with a gazillion obvious mistakes

hendrix was like this but didnt know how to tune his guitar - at least page bought a tuner along.....sometimes

page was good in the studio when grown ups were around and i guess they may have made him detox for a few hours before recording

hendrix despite being in a studio still couldnt get his guitar in tune

lets face it we all like hendrix cause his voice sounds very cool when he sings

The funny thing is millersnose that i actually liked Hendrix when i first heard him....but as my diversity in the different genres of rock became more apparent...my respect for Jimmy as a guitarist became less & less, i found out how average he was when i listened to more " talented guitarists".

At the age i was looking for the best, there was so many good guitarists around in my area & i needed the edge, while they played there " Hey Joe" & " fire"....i chose to implement Van Halen & Satriani to the fold, there looks said it all & from then on i was consided the best....they quickly disposed of there pro Jimmy and took up playing what i was playing as they knew it was clearly more complex & required more talent.

Voodoo chile is one of the worst attempts of a solo i have ever heard, it sounds tacky, typically out of tune, distorted ( probably he knew how terrible it sounded) and basically just sounded awfull.

Page atleast we knew had talent!...he probably wasn't too good live but you & i know that when in the studio his attention to detail was spot on!

I think the greatest guitarists should be based on how they actually played the guitar...not the way they looked on stage.

I could have voted for a few but i went for dimebag, he is an amazing guitarist and some of the stuff he done with pantera was awesome.

Hey legend where is tony iommi??? He was a true innovator and sabbath were one of the most influential bands ever, they had a sound way ahead of its time.
Other guitarists of note are Jason becker and Marty Freidman, if ya get a chance listen to cacophony, now thats shredding, also the work marty did on Rust in Peace was brilliant.
Satriani is brilliant and had a hand in the careers of vai and hammett. Man i could go on for ever about this, so many brilliant muso's

Why does no one mention Steve Howe?(YES) Totally awsome guitarist!!!

Also Larry Carlton....Who played with Steely Dan was the guitarists guitarist for years and years....

Actually Tommy Emmanuel shared a flat with him in the U.S for a couple of months so that goes to show how good TE is as well.
Page atleast we knew had talent!...he probably wasn't too good live but you & i know that when in the studio his attention to detail was spot on!

Get over yourself....have you ever seen'The song remains the same' movie??

larger than life!!

And who the f**k is "Ratt"

I find it interesting that Hendrix and Page are rated as some of the greatest guitar players of all time by their guitar playing peers... and some of the all time greatest musicians...

However a nobody like millersnose has the gall to say that they are over-rated.
