For the life of me i can't imagine how you'd rate Hendrix over Eddie being a guitarist yourself

Well Ratt where more talented then most bands i hear these days....and that's probably the reason why they have sold alot more albums then bands of today & yester-year, they could sing, drum, play the guitar everything.

Again, that's just an opinion. Not necessarily the right one.

And where did I say that I rate Eddie over Hendrix?

Well if you haven't written anything about Eddie i'd be surprised, after all we will probably play some of his style on the guitar sometime this week...he should be worshipped for introducing such variety & beauty to the instrument.

LOL Ron, Ron, Ron. Not mentioning Eddie means shit. I've discussed Eddie with you before. You know better than that.

I know Rolling Stone is just one source of an opinion... but a few months back they did a feature on the Greatest guitar players ever.

Needless to say, Jimi Hendrix was #1. I don't have the mag on me, but I think Eddie Van Halen was about #14. From memory, Django Reinhardt came second, can't remember 3rd and Eric Clapton was 4th.

Interesting... the Aussie version was different to that list.

Well, the American RS didn't have much respect for EVH, placing him at number 70!!!

It's worse Unit. May is at #39.

Paul Kossoff at #51? Please.

Neil Young above Randy Rhoads? I'm surprised Young made the top 100, but for crying out loud, who compiled this list?

That list is a farce!!!

You know why? The Australian version had .... wait for it ...... Daniel Johns from Silver chair   in the top 100 for starters   What the heck has he ever done on a guitar? And the worst part is if im not mistaken he is incredibly close to Tommy Emmanuel in the rankings, Tommy being an absolute brilliant player who has made his carrer out of great guitar work. To be even in the same list as Daniel Johns is an insult to him and for me means these people used the popularity of his band to advance him about 3000 spaces ahead of where he should be.

Just out of intrest they also had the Greatest Guitar riff just recently.

1. was Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses (Slash)
Hendrix had something in there, Voodoo Child i think along with EVH, possibly Little Guitars (intro) but i dont remember the whole list. If someone can find that link to its interesting.

The singer on the newest album kicks butt - the stuff i've heard is heavy! Then again, apparently some of the solos have gone bye bye

The last album i heard was System X. Is there a new one?? And the solos have gone have they? Ive heard Chris say so many times that shredding guitars is what Impellitteri is about and they will stay!!!

It seems a little more success for the band may have got in the way of that!

Slash is a hack at best. Because you know everything he recorded doesn't rate him. He doesn't deserve to be in the list. Master of feel?

Evilgrower i respect your opinion but have to, obviously, greatly disagree. I never said me knowing his stuff makes him a great player, my point was that i know alot more of his work than Hendrix and heard more of what he can do. Hendrix may have some amazing things ive never heard, but seeming though i havent heard them i cant rate them.

Slash in my opinion has amazing feel. Estranged, perfect case in point.

Gary Moore, Still got the blues is a great guitar filled piece. I also have a spanish guitar song i got of the net that sounds good aswell. Ive never heard a great deal of his work though, what i have heard is pretty cool.

The Gibson Les Paul. The greatest rock guitar ever made. Pity the necks have to be so wide.
And it can be hard to get right up to those high frets!

Frank,

I dont know those guys, ill have to have a listen.

Herd Mustaines solo from the song Ride The Lightning!!!

Gothebears,

Was Mustaine still with Metallica in ride the lighting??

I thought he only had some stuff on Kill em' all??

I LOVE GUITAR THREADS!! I usually get a new player i dont know from the discussions and end up enjoying the music!

Gibsons sh*t all over Fenders.
I voted Hammet out of that list cos he is the guitarist i enjoy most out of that list, although im surprised neither Marty Friedman(it think thats his name, guitarist from Megadeth) or Dave Mustaine were in there. Herd Mustaines solo from the song Ride The Lightning!!!
My favourite guitarist is Chris Cheny from the Living End, a sensational and ver under rated guitarist.

I definitely agree with you on Marty Friedman - some of the stuff solos he did on Tourniquet's 'Where Moth and Rust Destroy' were mind blowing.....his Megadeth stuff would blow that away

Ron Jeremy, I voted for Eddie I'll have you know and I agree with everything you say. My fave VH album is 5150 as I was more a fan of Hagar than Roth and some of my favourite VH songs like Best Of Both Worlds, Dreams, Summer Nights, Good Enough and Why Can't This Be Love.

FFS, The Edge was on the Rolling Stone list and his music is piss easy to play.

They had Cobain in the top 5 too.

Now Kurt was influencial but a great guitarist he was not...

John Butler has to be one of the greatest aussie guitarists that I have ever seen, along with Chris Cheeny (Living End).

I wandered into Byron Bay pub one Sunday afternoon, as you do, and caught Kevin Borich, who I haven't seen sincve the 60s. His blues guitar work is hypnotising. A truly amasin and inspirational guitarits, who has a passion for his work.

Teeny Boppers will vote for Daniel Johns because they like Sivlerchair, not because he is any good.
