It's ok for Union not to give a f**k about RL though. It's just us that have to have empathy for them
The history is there

the fact union fans ignore it is pretty telling imo
The stadium was unusable and crl didn’t have the money to make it useable. What would you expect them To do, Just leave it sitting empty whilst paying rent on it?
The article doesn’t actually say that it says they allowed the sub lease out of public pressure

but I’m sure if there was an earthquake and hull fc ground was damaged you would be happy to let them take over caravan park and decide which games you can play there

Your doing your usual deflection and not answering the question, what would you expect them to do, pay rent on a stadium they can’t use and leave it an unusable stadium for ever?

Nz2 should be christchurch and play a few games in the South Island and ignore Wellington

The blues and the crusaders are the two strongest union side and the warriors have already surpassed the blues so a South Island side directly competing with the strongest union side is the way to go as it’s their last remaining strong market which we have penetrated the least
North Island South is still a pretty Solid Union market. Canterbury would be the strongest league area in NZ outside of Auckland.
Chch with the new stadium is a strong candidate however making it solely South Island likely alienates the much more concentrated 2.6m north islanders outside of Auckland.
Wouldn’t surprise me if NZ2 was based in Chch but also named NZ ‘insert name here’ to try and capture that market

In union the all blacks and also wallabies try and steal the best players

in league it’s just about the opposite. Whilst the all blacks get the best islanders players in union those nations will always be held back
This old chestnut again…. It’s just pure racism to assume that New Zealanders of Pacific island decent are ‘stolen’ from the islands and not NZers. In fact it’s the opposite with the Pacific island teams having more players from NZ than actual born and bred Pacific Islanders.
Out of the 1200 odd All Blacks in over 100 years there’s only around 40 not born in NZ with the majority moving to NZ before they started playing rugby. It’s like saying the non PI or Maori players are ‘stolen’ from the UK. Definitely not the narrative of handpicking players from Apia or Suva in their playing prime like some try to paint.

League internationals are in reality ‘heritage’ teams (including a large chunk of the kiwis) rather than true international teams.

They'd be stupid not to call themselves New Zealand. Their goal is to get on board all the league fans outside of Auckland and not alienate any.

All blacks don’t need to sign any of them

the problem as the video quoted showed was playing for the all blacks they earn more money than playing for their home nations

in the 2015 union World Cup 20 percent of all players were of pi decent

in league alll players get paid the same

watch the video it’s all in there

Why are you posting opinion pieces from members of an Aussie sports forum as if it means something? To quote, um, you:

just bc someone writes something on a forum doesn’t mean it’s correct

Actually, did you even read it? Most of it is not about the ABs, and of the 5 ABs listed in the introduction three of them moved to NZ as children. They're terrible examples to pick.

Again it’s at best ignorance, at worst racism to say someone born in NZ (often 2nd if not 3rd generation), lived their entire life in NZ, played their entire rugby career in NZ utilising the coaching and development systems shouldn’t be New Zealanders and nz is not their ‘home’ nation. Yes there’s outliers but the above is the case for the vast majority.
Far more NZ born and bred players (again often 2nd or more generations) who have the benefit of NZ coaching and development systems play for the islands than those born and bred in the islands- who is exploiting who? Using the RWC example, NZ supply by far the most players to other international teams.
The whole “getting paid to play for the all blacks” thing is a myth, all provincial players are on a central nzru contract which then tiers up, these so called “playing for the money” players earn far more playing in Europe.

League internationals get paid the same? In the recent World Cup yes but outside of that you’re having a laugh. Many prospective kiwis players will make themselves ineligible in order to get the Origin payday.

How do you know what state it was? The fact they demolished it and put up the temp stands suggests it was fcked. So you want them to keep paying the lease on a stadium that was unusable ?

Do you know what happens with it when the new stadium opens and union moves there? Does crl get it back?if so sounds a sweet deal for them, get paid some cash and get back a rebuilt, in a fashion, stadium.

I hate union with passion but this seems like your crying over something that a) the crl had little option in given the state of the damaged stadium and their lack of cash to fix it and b) they might come out of it much better off.

out of Interest what did they actually use the stadium for? How often was it used for rl games?

I wonder if Abdo or PVL read this thread if they would be any clearer if NZ should have a second team ? :D
They will have a 2nd team after Queensland 5
The 5th Queensland team will stop any further fumbleball expansion on ant sort of scale into Queensland and put union into reverse
NZ.2 will put union there into reverse, and it might be in reverse even quicker if the AB's don't win regain the union world cup

Nzru found it easy bullying the minor rugby leagues in the country

but dealing with the arl is a whole different kettle of fish. One they don’t have the firepower to match

I’ve never expected union to admit wrong and make reparations that would require a collective conscience

the better way is to keep growing and growing whilst their sport fails to keep up

you could see the fear when the admittance of the warriors caused them to embrace professionalism to stave off their players coming to league in ever greater numbers
Not just professionalism, but marketing too - all of a sudden we had high profile rugby union teams with names like the Blues, Chiefs & Hurricanes.

While nicknames were a fixture of club rugby (and informally in provincial rugby) it was new thing to see them so up-front at a major level of the game.

The CRL aren’t going back, they’ve got a new permanent home down the road. The stadium as it is is too big for them anyway. I’m not sure what’s happening to Addington now. The stands were only intended to be temporary and may be at the end of their design life. Would be good to find out if anyone actually knows.
Perhaps one of the stands could be moved to the new facility.

which stadium are you referring to now, the pre-earthquake one?
