Worst performance by Panthers in the NRL for quite some time surely, can't think of any games where they lost by over 30 after being clear favourite..... Hardly anyone played well and players looked like strangers trying to form new combinations. Big uphill battle to bounce back for the Tigers in another away game in front of a parochial crowd.

This is actually factually incorrect. He was equal 3rd for try saving tackles and he had the 3rd best missed tackle percentage (19%) behind Inglis (far and away the best) and Trbojevic. He makes more tackles per game than Trbojevic but misses slightly more. He misses fewer tackles than Dugan, makes the same number of try saving tackles than Dugan and makes more tackles than most full backs.

I accept Moylan's kick returns are poor, but you are just plain wrong about defence.

Incidentally, Inglis is far and away the best defensive fullback with a missed tackle percentage of a bout 14% compared to 18% for the next best. Souths season is probably over, they will miss him terribly.

If there were a stat for how many tries on our line that were let in where Moylan was not in position or didn't make an attempt at the play than his figures wouldn't be so positive.

I lol'd. There is no way the Panfers will lose, in fact they could be on top of the ladder at the end of the round.

Dear This Year,
I understand that you little faith in your team. I understand that you think your coach should be sacked.
But you must understand that I have been a Panthers supporter for more than 30 years. And if I tell you that your team is at home and you have some serviceable first graders and Penrith are considered to be competition favorites and a lay down misere to win. Then this is exactly the time that we don't turn up and you could have made yourself some serious coin.

I remember 6 or 7 years ago during the Elliott era we played Newcastle in Round 1 in 35 degree heat and got pumped by about 30 points. Gus came out after the game (before his time with us) and said there must be problems at the club when the coach can't get a team focused and pumped up for the first game of the year. I would like hear what Gus has to say about that first round effort we just witnessed.

Loss is straight on the forwards. Heartless performance
Pretty much spot on. Whare & Hiku although mostly invisible didnt come close to being a deciding factor in the game. Only positives were Blake, Yeo and TMM. TMM made a few mistakes but generally had a crack. Cleary & Peachy weren't to blame either. Moylan looked good in attack in patches, but urgency in D was f**king pathetic.

How does he make equal third try saving tackles if he isn't in position? He is also in top five for tackles made by fullbacks per game.

If you base your criticism on he should have been in position X, you are right it doesn't show up as a missed tackle, but that is highly subjective. Many people say his positioning is poor, yet he is in the top 10 for defusing bombs and kicks (sixth I think). You are basically criticising him for the things you think he should have done, not what he has done.

Ill try be fair and give it a few more rounds but lets be honest. Pull the f**king trigger and Moylan to 5/8
Why? Our 5/8th wasn't why we lost. You said it best. Heartless performance by the forwards and I would add except for a pass mark for Yeo.

Playing to his strengths and eliminating the weakness? Our forwards sucked and Mansour wasn't there to cover. DWZ running hard from the back to start sets has always been the answer

A completely different challenge from the one we failed today. V but their backs will carve us up unless there's huge improvement.

The Moylan is a great defensive fullback stats are a load of f**king shit and your eyes should be able to tell you that. They're inflated by defending in the line attaching himself to tackles and getting them deemed try savers.

One on one try savers is what makes a last ditch defender, and Moylan is well below par. You'd have to be off your head to want Moylan as your last defender in a one on one situation ahead of Boyd, Inglis, TVS, Wighton, Trbojevich, Dugan, French, Hayne, Gordon, Munster, Slater, Teddy or even Coote.

Gus called it the worst performance in years on Twitter. It was what it was. It WAS an atrocious performance.

Looking forward to the Bounce Back Factor next week...

I don't know if we were favourite, but I trekked to Kogarah on the back of 6 straight wins in 1984, Greg Alexander's first year, to watch our side beaten 40-6.

I'm expecting an improved performance, nothing much can be worse than that. But still I think we'll lose to Wests. Confidence must be pretty low after that.

Hmm, I see. So, a missed tackle only counts if Moylan does it. Tedesco's 40% missed tackle rate, incidentally double that of Moylan's and he also makes fewer tackles per game, doesn't matter, he is a better defensive fullback. Thanks for clearing that up.
