I remember 6 or 7 years ago during the Elliott era we played Newcastle in Round 1 in 35 degree heat and got pumped by about 30 points. Gus came out after the game (before his time with us) and said there must be problems at the club when the coach can't get a team focused and pumped up for the first game of the year. I would like hear what Gus has to say about that first round effort we just witnessed.

It was Round 1, 2011. We were down 42-2 in the 79th minute before a converted try on full time left it at 42-8. We did bounce back the next week to beat Parra at Parra Stadium.

Today was pretty bad, no doubt, probably the worst performance since we got belted by the Storm at AAMI in 2015.

Fine for fans to talk them up but the players thinking the same is a big issue. This loss to a awful bottom 4 team might be good in the long run

Great to see such a bunch of true panther fans here.....FFS settle down. Its 1 loss and yes we got spanked , but we are the same amount of points as the Raiders and they played a great game and still lost.

I'm gutted at that performance.... but i don't think we could play that bad again if we tried.

Its a long season and i would bet anything our forwards will never play like that again this year.

Exactly. Calling people not "true fans " for calling out an obviously peahearted performance is crap. Very disappointed in Merrin and Tamou for not stepping up and dragging the other forwards with them

Exactly. Newcastle may have got whacked last year but they didn't have nearly as good a roster and the important thing is that they actually put in the effort. It would have been nice to see that today. Our forward pack was pathetic.

The majority of us that post here are pretty well rusted on and have stayed supporters through some pretty dire eras. We are right to be pissed off with todays effort. In fact I would question the loyalty of someone who wasnt disgusted in that performance.

Paper talk can be misleading. The Dragons have a better pack than in 2010. Games and premierships are won on performance not potential. Gould has stuffed up a lot of clubs and is a bag of hot air.
Merrin never contributed much at the Dragons and was never a match winner and Tamou is past his best. Rein is robotic and the Dragons should never have kept him. Luke Lewis and James Segyaro should never have been let go.

Merrin only played 30 or so minutes today because he had a disrupted pre-season. Otherwise he has been great. Segeyaro had to be let go, he was stunting our attack.

Seg was the best hooker in the comp in 2014 and then awful in 2015.
Dragons fans have something against Merrin for whatever reason but he was brilliant last year

The duke has built a talented squad. He hasnt worried about players defense as much. Moylan defense at back is non existant. Doesnt put body on line. Or even do a barba or bowen who where small and try and force ball out and hit hard.
Cartwrights defense says im not a starting player. Bench him.

I wouldn't worry to much as its game 1 in wet. But showed no heart and gave up is the hear of the players. Theyl won many games well and could be a wake up call.
